The Health Online Web Communications Specialist supports CDC's Office of Communications (OC) in managing and expanding the agency's presence across various social media platforms. This role involves content coordination, community monitoring, and strategic collaboration with the CORVD team and the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) to ensure accurate, timely, and engaging health messaging. Candidates should have experience with federal or public health communications and a passion for digital engagement.

Requires NACI Public Trust or ability to obtain one.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Health Online Web Communications Specialist: Pay commensurate with experience.

Health Online Web Communications Specialist Responsibilities Include:
  • Social Media Management & Support
    • Assist in the day-to-day management and scheduling of CDC social media accounts, including:
      • Facebook (English & Spanish)
      • X (formerly Twitter): @CDCgov, @CDCDirector, @CDCEspanol
      • Pinterest, Flickr, YouTube, LinkedIn
      • Be prepared to support emerging platforms such as Threads, Mastodon, and Bluesky
    • Support the CORVD program by:
      • Contributing to social media strategy and content planning
      • Collaborating with NCIRD and CORVD staff on public health campaign messaging
  • Monitoring & Engagement
    • Regularly monitor social media profiles for public engagement, including questions, comments, or relevant feedback
    • Flag and share inquiries or issues with the appropriate CDC staff or programs
    • Amplify CORVD-related messages on OC-managed social media channels as appropriate
  • Content Coordination & Collaboration
    • Coordinate with NCIRD social media teams to support content development and dissemination
    • Attend and participate in social media strategy meetings, discussions, and calls across OC, CORVD, and Center teams
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned


Health Online Web Communications Specialist Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Health, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field
  • 1-3 years of experience in digital communications or social media management (preferably in a public health or government setting).
  • Familiarity with CDC branding, tone, and social media practices a plus
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Senior (10+ years' experience or PhD with 7-10+ years' experience)
  • Key Skills:
    • Knowledge of major social media platforms and analytics tools
    • Strong writing, editing, and content development skills
    • Experience in public health communications or science communication preferred
    • Ability to coordinate across multiple teams and projects
    • Strong attention to detail and understanding of audience engagement strategies
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
