Port Engineer – Remote Opportunity

ClearanceJobs is aiding their client in search of a Port Engineer to oversee the maintenance and overhauls (VRA & ROH) of US Government owned vessels. This is a 100% remote opportunity with periodic overseas travel (Far East) to ship location for overhauls and repairs.

The ideal candidate will have at least five (5) years of experience in the US commercial maritime industry in either a shore-side or shipboard engineering role.

An active Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain a government issued security clearance is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manage and negotiate complex projects such as shipyard dry dock overhauls and other types of repairs
• Negotiate and administer contracts for ship construction or overhaul, and experience in preparation of contract work specifications
• Establish cost estimates for repair, overhaul, conversion, or construction of ocean-going ships
• Understand overhaul requirements, and the preparation of contract work specifications and cost estimates for repair, overhaul, conversion, or construction of ocean-going ships
• Regulatory compliance, and vessel management

Qualifications:
• Possess a minimum of three years of experience as a Port Engineer with experience managing a minimum of two shipyard dry-docking availabilities valued at a minimum of three million dollars per availability. This experience shall demonstrate the ability to effectively manage and negotiate complex projects such as shipyard dry dock overhauls and other types of repairs.
• Possess a minimum of four years of experience serving aboard Government or commercial ocean-going ships of not less than 4,000 HP as either a Chief Engineer or a First Assistant Engineer. This experience shall demonstrate effective management of maintenance and repair of ocean-going ships.
• Possess a minimum of five years of education and experience as outlined below. This experience demonstrates the ability to manage and negotiate complex projects such as shipyard dry dock overhauls and other types of repairs on ocean-going ships.
o An engineering-related degree (e.g., Marine Engineer, Marine Architecture; Mechanical Engineering). Time for purposes of meeting this requirement will be the time necessary to obtain the degree as a full-time student taking 15 credit hours per semester
o Experience gained while employed by a shipyard in a management position
o Serving as a Port Engineer on a Government or commercial contract
o Serving on Active Duty in the military performing duties substantially the same as a Port Engineer
