Job Description

Job Title: Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Engineer
Location: Remote (U.S.-based only)
Clearance Required: Active Secret
Employment Type: Full-Time, 6-Month Engagement (starting ~August 1, 2025)
Salary & Benefits: Competitive base + bonus structure, 401(k) match, comprehensive health benefits, generous PTO, and full remote flexibility

About the Role

Metronome is seeking a skilled Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Engineer to support the delivery of a prototype OTA project aligned with the U.S. Air Force's Platform One (P1). This is a 6-month engagement focused on building the infrastructure foundation for our internal product, Fractive, which will compete against other offerings during a "flyoff" to secure a long-term production OTA award. This is a highly strategic role for an automation-focused engineer who thrives in cloud-first environments and enjoys solving infrastructure challenges with code.

Why This Role Matters

P1 Prototype Flyoff: Help shape and deliver the cloud-native infrastructure behind Fractive as part of a head-to-head R&D competition.

Production OTA Potential: If selected at the end of the PoP, your work will feed directly into a long-term, multi-option contract supporting software modernization across DoD.

Marketplace Advantage: Fractive is already "awardable" on Big Bang Marketplace, and success here increases visibility and future adoption across the government.

Responsibilities

Design and implement cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform

Develop resilient, scalable, and secure systems on AWS, with potential cross-cloud support (Azure, GCP)

Integrate infrastructure provisioning into CI/CD pipelines to support automated, reliable software deployments

Embed security and compliance controls directly into IaC workflows and architectures

Collaborate closely with DevOps, engineering, and product teams to support iterative, Agile software delivery

Optimize cloud infrastructure for performance, cost-efficiency, and operational reliability

Build and maintain clear documentation: architecture diagrams, runbooks, and recovery playbooks

Stay informed on emerging trends in cloud computing, DevSecOps, and automation tooling

Required Skills

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience building infrastructure with IaC tools such as Terraform
  • Strong command of AWS (or Azure/GCP) core services: EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, ECS/EKS, etc.
  • Experience integrating IaC into CI/CD pipelines with tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps
  • Proficient in scripting (Python, Bash, or PowerShell) to support automation and templating
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef
  • Strong understanding of networking, security practices, and scalable cloud architecture
  • Experience managing infrastructure in production cloud environments
  • CompTIA Security+ Cert

Desired Skills

Preferred Experience
  • AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud certifications (e.g., DevOps Engineer, Solutions Architect)
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration
  • Knowledge of monitoring/logging tools like CloudWatch, Grafana, or Prometheus
  • Exposure to DevSecOps practices and secure provisioning workflows
  • Prior experience on DoD, IC, or other federal contracts a strong plus
