Zachary Piper Solutions is currently looking for an Payload Operations Engineer to support one of our partners on-site in Lanham, MD . The Payload Operations Engineer will be joining a fast growing satellite communications company that is focused on ramping up in order to launch multiple satellites per month. The individual will assist in supporting the satellite payload subsystems for constellation service and in-orbit testing.

Responsibilities for the Payload Operations Engineer include:
· Support the creation and enhancement of automated tools for payload operations, including configuration, testing, and commercial service readiness.
· Evaluate telemetry and logs to ensure payload subsystem health (e.g., power, thermal, RF), and maintain situational awareness of satellite and ground systems.
· Manage payload system changes and collaborate with SOC, NOC, and subsystem engineers to resolve service-impacting issues.
· Contribute to procedure development, testing, and validation for mission milestones, ensuring system readiness for in-orbit operations.
· Engage in daily shift handovers, operate SOC software tools, and maintain continuous support for payload operations and service continuity.
Qualifications for the Payload Operations Engineer include:
· Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering or Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) field.
· 2+ years of experience and/or Masters Degree in related field.
· Experience working with satellite communication payloads.
· Multi-satellite LEO constellation experience.
· Familiarity with version control software, preferably Git.
· Technical understanding of satellite system architecture and subsystem functionality
· Familiarity with the Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence)
· Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, Python, Matlab, C#
· Must be eligible to work in the United States and pass a background check.
Compensation for the Payload Operations Engineer include:
· Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000 *depending on experience*
