Position Summary

Venatore excels at designing innovative, secure IT architectures for federal and defense clients. We are seeking a Solutions Architect II to contribute to the design and integration strategy of the FTEL SCIF Network Multi-Level Security implementation at Edwards Air Force Base, CA. In this role, you will be an intermediate-level solutions architect supporting the lead engineers in crafting a robust architecture for a network that concurrently handles multiple Top Secret networks via a Trusted Thin Client setup. You will help ensure that the overall solution is well-planned, seamlessly integrated, and meets all operational and security requirements. This is a short-term, project-based position on-site at Edwards AFB requiring an active TS/SCI clearance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop the overall solution architecture and integration strategy for the MLS network solution, working under the guidance of senior engineers to create a coherent design that meets the project’s objectives.
  • Analyze the project’s technical requirements (supporting 6 TS network environments for ~50 users) and constraints (e.g. SCIF infrastructure, existing base network, security policies) to inform the design of system components and their interactions.
  • Collaborate closely with the Systems Engineer and Network Engineer to design the system’s topology – including server configurations, network segmentation, data flow, and how the Trusted Thin Client (TTC) technology will be implemented for multi-network access.
  • Create architecture diagrams, data flow diagrams, and integration planning documents that clearly illustrate the proposed solution. These will be used in design reviews and as guidance for the implementation team.
  • Contribute to the System Design Document and other technical documentation by writing sections that describe the solution architecture, integration approach, and rationale for key design decisions (e.g., choice of hardware, network design, virtualization approach).
  • Participate in technical review meetings (SRR/PDR/CDR), presenting aspects of the architecture and integration plan to stakeholders and incorporating feedback or required changes into the design.
  • Work with the Project Manager and procurement team to ensure selected hardware/software aligns with the architectural design. Provide technical input on product selection (servers, network gear, software licenses) and compatibility with the solution’s requirements.
  • Support the implementation phase by advising on any architectural questions that arise. If issues are encountered (performance bottlenecks, integration challenges), help troubleshoot and adjust the design or configuration to resolve them while still meeting overall requirements.
  • Assist with ensuring that the final implemented system matches the intended architecture – perform or support validation checks and contribute to the final acceptance test procedures focusing on architectural integrity and performance criteria.

Qualifications
  • Active TS/SCI clearance is required (must be maintained throughout the project).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in systems architecture, solutions architecture, or systems engineering, including involvement in designing and integrating complex IT systems or networks.
  • Solid understanding of network and system design principles – experience with virtualization (e.g., VDI or server virtualization), enterprise networking, and cybersecurity fundamentals in system architecture.
  • Experience contributing to or creating multi-faceted solutions that include hardware, software, and network elements. Prior exposure to projects involving multi-level security, cross-domain solutions, or Zero Trust architectures is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of breaking down complex problems and proposing effective architectural solutions.
  • Ability to produce high-quality architectural documentation (diagrams and written descriptions) and to articulate design ideas clearly in discussions and presentations.
  • Familiarity with Department of Defense or Air Force enterprise architectures and standards is advantageous – e.g., understanding of DoD network environments, accreditation constraints, or MIL-STD documentation.
  • Collaborative mindset – able to work under senior guidance and also take initiative in your areas of responsibility. Must communicate effectively with engineers of different disciplines (network, software, security) to ensure all aspects of the solution work together.
  • Professional certifications related to architecture or networking (e.g., AWS/Azure Solutions Architect, Cisco CCDP/CCNA, or CompTIA Security+) are a plus, demonstrating a commitment to continued professional development in relevant domains.
