The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time Fire Alarm Technician for a facility engineering program to support a federal Agency in the Reston, Va area. The position will support Agency-related activities, including assisting the On-site Project Manager with day-to-day operations in the local FMMS and will be responsible for conducting random quality control checks on equipment and periodic maintenance (PM) jobs.

Job Description
Description/Job Summary:
The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time Fire Alarm Technician for a facility engineering program to support a federal Agency in the Reston, Va area. The position will support Agency-related activities, including assisting the On-site Project Manager with day-to-day operations in the local FMMS and will be responsible for conducting random quality control checks on equipment and periodic maintenance (PM) jobs.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Responsibilities include but aren't limited to performing service, maintenance, and tour requirements on all aspects of fire management systems in USGS's Main Building, Power Plant, Physics Building, Advanced Systems Center Building, and all ancillary buildings on the USGS campus. The employee must otherwise meet any requirements of the Government for this classification contained in the applicable RFP and contract.
- Be able to test the firefighters' service recall system for each elevator monthly according to all the requirements of the code. The contractor shall provide the test results to the COR, 5 days after test completion. Weekly Reports
- Familiar with and comply with:

- NFPA 105, Standard for the Installation of Smoke Door Assemblies and Other Opening Protectives

- NFPA 12, Standard on Carbon Dioxide Extinguishing Systems
- NFPA 12A, Standard on Halon 1301 Fire Extinguishing Systems
- NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems
- NFPA 14, Standard for the Installation of Standpipe and Hose Systems
- NFPA 17, Standard for Dry Chemical Extinguishing Systems
- NFPA 17A, Standard for Wet Chemical Extinguishing Systems
- NFPA 20, Standard for the Installation of Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection
- NFPA 2001, Standard on Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems
- NFPA 22, Standard for Water Tanks for Private Fire Protection
- NFPA 24, Standard for the Installation of Private Fire Service Mains and Their Appurtenances
- NFPA 25, Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems
- Ensure safety guidelines are followed.
- Provide on time updates to Client.
- Assist with construction projects
- Review construction drawings to ensure standards are followed.
- Assist with generating SOP's
- Ensure OSHA compliance.
Required Skills:
- Technicians performing contract work involving the inspection, testing, and preventive maintenance or repair of fire alarm systems shall be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) and possess at least a NICET Level 2 (Associate Engineering Technician) in Fire Protection Engineering Technology, Fire Alarm Systems. The Contractor shall submit to the COR the NICET level certification number and expiration date for each field technician and inspector responsible for performing fire alarm system preventive maintenance and repair services required under the terms of this Contract.
- Technicians modifying the programming software of the fire alarm system shall also be factory trained and certified by the system manufacturer for the specific type and brand of fire alarm system being serviced. The Contractor shall submit to the COR the factory trained certification number and expiration date for each specific manufacturer's equipment for each technician responsible for performing programming of the fire alarm system.
Preferred Skills:
- Good administrative skills, communication and ability to prioritize work orders.
Required Experience:
- Five (5) years of management experience serving in roles of facilities maintenance management, quality control support, and fire and life safety operations.
- Federal Government experience
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in resource management, schedule management, and contract management for federal contracts. experience in maintenance management, maintenance and reliability management with industrial equipment or research facilities.
- Knowledge of FMMS, FMMS KPI creation, Microsoft Office
Required Education:
- High school diploma
