Description:
You will be the Optical Engineer, leading our optical design and analysis efforts for complex electro-optical systems, including military fire control, missile, and laser systems. Our team is responsible for designing, analyzing, and testing innovative optical systems, and we're looking for an experienced engineer to join our team.
What You Will Be Doing
As the Optical Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting research and development in optical system concepts, layout, and detailed design, applying your knowledge of geometrical and physical optics. Your responsibilities will include:
• Leading optical design and analysis efforts, including trade studies, design refinement, and optimization
• Performing optical tolerance analysis, stray light analysis, and designing baffles and stops
• Supporting optics and optical mount mechanical design, reviewing and approving optics-related mechanical drawings
• Conducting interferometric measurements, optical alignments, and radiometric measurements
• Initiating and supporting optics-related manufacturing producibility or cost savings activities
• Maintaining and documenting the overall system optical prescription and tolerance analyses
• Utilizing optical system design tools, such as CodeV or Zemax, to design and analyze complex optical systems

Basic Qualifications:
• Degree in Optics, Physics, or equivalent.
• Advanced aptitude in engineering mathematics and ability to correlate theory with hardware design and system response.
• Must be able to work in a highly diverse, interdisciplinary, collaborative multi-tasking, R&D or integrated product development team environment.
• Has, or ability to obtain, a US DoD Secret (or higher) security clearance.
• Good writing and oral communication skills.
• Ability to travel occasionally to support business need.
• Advanced proficiency in Windows/Microsoft Office Suite: Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Desired Skills:
25+ years of related experience.
• Knowledge of geometrical and physical optics, optical aberration theory.
• High degree of fluency with CodeV (preferred) or Zemax software for optical design and tolerance analysis and performance optimization.
• Familiarity with optical materials, including infrared materials.
• Experienced in generating optics prescriptions for visible through long wave IR applications to support design layout, tolerances and detail lens drawings.
• Ability to troubleshoot and evaluate multi-spectral complex optical, electro-optical, and laser systems issues occurring during fabrication, assembly and test.
• Knowledge of optical component manufacturing, optical metrology techniques, and optical assembly manufacturing methods and mounting techniques.
• Capability to perform interferometric measurements, optical alignments and radiometric measurements
• Knowledge of basic radiometry and Electro-Optical analysis fundamentals.
• Proficient in the use of optical tooling, interferometers and optical inspection techniques.
• Capable of production line troubleshooting and evaluation of multi-spectral complex optical, electro-optical, and laser systems.
• Working knowledge of lasers and coherent beam analysis.
• Able to communicate effectively with mechanical designers and optics suppliers and assist with manufacturing issues.
