The Journeyman Lab Engineer supports the daily operations and maintenance of USSOUTHCOM's test and development lab environment. This position involves configuring and maintaining physical and virtual systems, assisting in the replication of production environment, and supporting integration and testing efforts.

Tyto Athene is searching for a Lab Engineer - Journeyman to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Journeyman Lab Engineer supports the daily operations and maintenance of USSOUTHCOM's test and development lab environment. This position involves configuring and maintaining physical and virtual systems, assisting in the replication of production environment, and supporting integration and testing efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Configure and maintain virtual machines and physical lab systems to support testing, development, and evaluation tasks
- Support lab operations including system imaging, software deployments, and hardware setup
- Perform routine system administration tasks (e.g., patching, account management, configuration updates) in Windows and Linux environments
- Implement and maintain basic network configurations including VLANs, IP address assignments, and port settings
- Assist with applying DISA STIGs and hardening lab systems to meet cybersecurity requirements
- Document lab activities including system builds, network diagrams, configuration changes, and test results
- Support testing of new hardware, software, and configurations in coordination with developers and system engineers
- Conduct basic troubleshooting of hardware, software, and connectivity issues
- Maintain inventory and track the status of lab equipment and consumables
- Follow lab safety and security procedures, ensuring controlled access to equipment and systems
Required:
- Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field
- 4-9 years of hand on experience in IT in systems administration, with at least 2 years supporting lab or test environments
- Basic experience with virtualization tools such as VMware or ESXI.
- Familiarity with Windows Server and/or Linux operating systems.
- Understanding of basic networking concepts (IP addressing, subnets, VLANs).
- Ability to read and follow system build guides, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Experience working in environments with DoD cybersecurity standards (e.g., RMF, STIGs).
Desired:
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- Hands-on experience with patch management tools (e.g., WSUS, SCCM)
- Basic scripting experience (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) for automation
- Prior experience supporting DoD, government, or classified lab environments
- Familiarity with lab asset tracking tools or configuration management databases (CMDBs)
Clearance:
- TS/SCI clearance required
Certification:
- DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
