Job Title: Microsoft Project SME – IRES Contract
Location: Schriever SFB, CO / Peterson SFB, CO / Huntsville, AL [On-site]
Clearance Requirement: Active DoD Secret clearance or higher
Start Date: ASAP / Upon Clearance Verification
Salary Range: $100,000 – $130,000 (commensurate with experience)
Position Summary:
Integrated Research & Development for Enterprise Services (IRES), supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), is seeking a Microsoft Project Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead enterprise scheduling and project control efforts across a complex portfolio of IT and cybersecurity programs. The SME will design, implement, and manage Microsoft Project schedules aligned to PMO standards, and provide training and mentorship to stakeholders across IRES.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead development and management of integrated master schedules using Microsoft Project across multiple workstreams.
• Work directly with program managers, control account managers, and technical leads to develop, update, and analyze project schedules.
• Serve as the primary technical SME for Microsoft Project configuration, usage, and integration across the IRES program.
• Provide regular training sessions, workshops, and one-on-one coaching to increase Microsoft Project proficiency across the enterprise.
• Support Earned Value Management (EVM) practices, aligning schedule data with cost performance metrics where applicable.
• Identify scheduling risks and recommend mitigation strategies to maintain critical path and schedule integrity.
• Collaborate with PMO leadership to ensure all scheduling processes and tools are compliant with MDA and DoD standards.
• Produce reports and visualizations (Gantt charts, dashboards, critical path analyses) for executive-level reviews.
Basic Qualifications:
• U.S. Citizenship and an active DoD Secret security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 7+ years of experience in project scheduling and planning using Microsoft Project in a government or defense contracting environment.
• Deep technical proficiency in Microsoft Project Professional and/or Project Online, including custom views, baselines, calendars, and resource leveling.
• Strong understanding of project lifecycle, WBS, dependencies, critical path methodology, and schedule risk management.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical schedule concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience supporting Missile Defense Agency (MDA) or other DoD contracts.
• PMP or PMI-SP certification.
• Familiarity with Agile or hybrid project management methodologies.
• Experience integrating Microsoft Project with SharePoint, Power BI, or Primavera.
• Knowledge of EVM systems and tools such as Deltek Cobra or wInsight.
