Duties

The United States Space Force (USSF) at Space Operations Command (SpOC) 2nd Navigation Warfare Squadron (2 NWS) at Schriever Space Force Base is searching for a Bus Engineer (NH-0801-03, GS-12/13 Equivalent).

Description:
The Bus Engineer will serve as an engineering subject matter expert supporting the Engineering (ENG) MSE. Responsible for engineering assignments concerning Program Management, Orbital Mechanics, Orbital Analysis, Spacecraft Bus, Navigation, Nuclear Detection (NUDET) Subsystems, and engineering assessments and analysis to support protection and defense against threats to GPS satellites and for the 2nd Navigation Warfare Squadron (2NWS).

The ideal candidate must possess the minimum of bachelor's in engineering. Experience in GPS specific engineering desired but not required. Knowledge of the theories, concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, and materials of multidisciplinary professional engineering to effectively apply engineering theories, principles, and concepts to areas of responsibility. Knowledge of the principles of planning, program management, and standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures. Skill in working with customers to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations. Ability to persuade others to accept recommendations, work toward an agreement, and negotiate mutually acceptable solutions. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and determine resource requirements; determine goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinate with other organizations; monitor progress, and evaluate outcomes. Ability to identify problems and use sound judgment and decisions to generate and evaluate alternatives and make recommendations.

  • This position is on-site but may be eligible for situational telework.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance with SCI access.
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
  • A professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an ABET accredited institution in engineering (or a closely related field is required).
  • May be required travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis; will be required to work on-call per schedule.
  • This position is part of the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP). The employee must meet the functional area certification requirements within the timeframe range of 1-5 years from appointment date into the position.
  • Subject to temporary duty assignment (TDY) for approximately 45 days per year.
