General Description:

The ideal Equipment Engineer III will have a proven track record in advanced troubleshooting techniques, diagnosing & resolving complex electrical/ mechanical failures, and using logic-based methodology to repair 1-off tool failures associated with semiconductor manufacturing equipment. The selected candidate will have a strong background in Metal Evaporation and Sputter (high vacuum) systems. He/she will act as the main point of contact for the EES group in conversations centered around his/her primary tool set(s), having the ability through direct conversation with junior engineers, technicians, and inventory analysts, to identify and fill gaps in current documentation, best known methods (BKM), and parts inventory to assist in the mitigation of extended downtime scenarios related to customer tools. Must be able to work with EES' inventory analyst to effectively identify, source, and secure critical & long lead time, and obsolete spares required to help extend the useful life of HRL's current fleet of tools. He/she will possess the ability to dismantle, adjust, repair, and assemble equipment according to schematics, blueprints, drawings, and operating/repair manuals. The selected Equipment Engineer will have the ability to manage projects, train other EES staff and work independently at times, developing and implementing improvements to enhance reliability, performance, and long-term supportability of the HRL's equipment and infrastructure.

Essential Duties:

Work in a Class 10(ISO-4) Cleanroom environment.

Provide day-to-day advanced engineering level support for assigned process module (dry etch, deposition, metals, metrology, photo, and wet process).

Train technicians, guiding them through recovery efforts associated with a down tool event.

Develop training plans and schedules for new and Jr. Team members.

Optimize tool uptime for assigned tools through the effective use of OCAPs, SPC, and response metrics.

Capture and document all BKM practices related to tool recovery, troubleshooting, and PMs in accordance with ISO9001 and AS9100 requirements.

Drive continuous improvement efforts related to module toolsets using equipment performance & reliability metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.

Lead teams geared toward eliminating waste, improving overall tool uptime, and optimizing 5S capability.

Independently, design and implement advanced/expert level PM tasks and qualifications.

Secure real-time feedback from Jr. Team members related to Maintenance Activity (MA) documents, OCAPs, and recovery efforts, making redline edits to identified documents.

Provide expert level support in the recovery of semiconductor manufacturing equipment from advanced tool related failures (initial assessment, general troubleshooting, system resets, etc.)

Play an advanced level role in tool installs, basic assembly of support equipment/material, initial document creation, etc.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

Must have a fundamental understanding in the operational theory, advanced troubleshooting, and repair of high vacuum Metal Evaporation and Sputter systems.

Ability to accurately capture and confidently report on tool related failures, including troubleshooting logic used, root cause analysis completed, and recurrence prevention techniques implemented.

Must be proficient in establishing and integrating SPC, OCAP, and FMEA related protocols.

Must be able to work independently using advanced level troubleshooting techniques to resolve and repair system failures in assigned module.

Must be proficient in capturing and reporting on specific tool failures associated with primary responsibilities.

Must have a proven track record of technical writing (maintenance and PM documentation/work instruction).

Should have familiarity leading root cause/corrective action teams.

Will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Required Education:

BS degree in an engineering or electronics discipline and a minimum 8 years of semiconductor engineering experience or,

AS degree in an engineering or electronics discipline and a minimum 12 years of semiconductor equipment engineering experience

High School diploma and 17-20 years of semiconductor equipment engineering experience in combination with one of the following: trade school experience, military background, or OEM training on relevant equipment.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to work in an ISO Class 4 cleanroom and facility equipment rooms.

• Must be able to lift/push/pull 25-30 pounds consistently and up to 50lbs occasionally.

• Must be able to stand, walk & stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Special Requirements:

• U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status required.

• Ability to obtain a security clearance is a plus.

Compensation:

The base salary range for this full-time position is $120,715 - $150,895 + bonus + benefits.
