Tyto Athene is searching for a Storage Engineer - Journeyman to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Journeyman Storage Engineer manages, configures, and maintains enterprise storage solutions to support USSOUTHCOM's mission-critical data operations. This role includes configuring and managing SAN/NAS environments, troubleshooting performance issues, and ensuring data protection in accordance with DoD standards.

Tyto Athene is searching for a Storage Engineer - Journeyman to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Journeyman Storage Engineer manages, configures, and maintains enterprise storage solutions to support USSOUTHCOM's mission-critical data operations. This role includes configuring and managing SAN/NAS environments, troubleshooting performance issues, and ensuring data protection in accordance with DoD standards.
Responsibilities:
- Deploys and integrates storage area networks (SAN), network-attached storage (NAS), and cloud-based storage platforms to ensure scalability, availability, and security
- Monitors storage performance, conducts diagnostics, and resolves complex issues to optimize data access and reliability
- Implements data backup, disaster recovery, and replication strategies to protect critical assets and maintain compliance with DoD regulations
- Works with automation tools and storage management platforms to streamline operations and improve efficiency
- Executes lifecycle management of storage infrastructure, aligning operations with cybersecurity, risk mitigation, and continuity of operations (COOP) strategies
- Conducts storage audits, capacity planning, and performance optimizations to sustain enterprise-wide data accessibility and integrity
- Provides Tier 2 and Tier 3 storage support, collaborating with cybersecurity, networking, and IT teams to enhance storage resilience
- Assists in data migration, storage encryption, and policy enforcement to maintain compliance with security best practices
- Supports mission-critical applications by delivering secure, high-performance, and adaptive storage solutions across operational environments.
Required:
- Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field
- 4-9 years of experience managing storage systems
- Knowledge of storage protocols
- Familiarity with virtualization platform
- Understanding of data protection strategies, RAID and backup methodologies
Desired:
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- Experience working in DoD or Federal IT environments
- Familiarity with DISA STIGs and RMF process
- Basics scripting or automation experience
- ITIL v4 Foundations or higher
- Vendor Storage Certification from Dell, Netapp, HPE
Clearance:
- TS/SCI clearance required
Certification:
- DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
- CompTIA Security+ CE
- Microsoft AZ-104

- Compensation is unique to each candidate and relative to the skills and experience they bring to the position. This does not guarantee a specific salary as compensation is based upon multiple factors such as education, experience, certifications, and other requirements, and may fall outside of the above-stated range.
