Tyto Athene is searching for a Senior Storage Engineer to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Senior Storage Engineer develops, designs, and manages enterprise storage infrastructure to support USSOUTHCOM's mission-critical data operations. This individual ensures data availability, integrity, security, and recoverability across SAN/NAS environments and supports compliance with DoD cybersecurity frameworks.

Tyto Athene is searching for a Senior Storage Engineer to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Senior Storage Engineer develops, designs, and manages enterprise storage infrastructure to support USSOUTHCOM's mission-critical data operations. This individual ensures data availability, integrity, security, and recoverability across SAN/NAS environments and supports compliance with DoD cybersecurity frameworks.
Responsibilities:
- Establishes scalable, secure, and high-performance storage architectures, integrating Storage Area Networks (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), and cloud-based storage solutions
- Leads the deployment, configuration, and optimization of storage platforms, ensuring seamless data availability, redundancy, and disaster recovery capabilities
- Implements data protection measures, encryption protocols, and access controls to secure storage environments while maintaining compliance with DoD regulations
- Conducts performance tuning, diagnostics, and troubleshooting to optimize storage efficiency and reliability
- Executes lifecycle management of enterprise storage systems, aligning operations with cybersecurity, risk mitigation, and continuity of operations (COOP) strategies
- Conducts security audits, compliance assessments, and capacity planning to optimize enterprise-wide storage performance and availability
- Provides Tier 3 and Tier 4 technical leadership, mentoring administrators and collaborating with IT, cybersecurity, and cloud teams to enhance data resilience
- Develops automation frameworks, storage monitoring tools, and data management policies to streamline operations and improve system visibility
- Plan and execute storage upgrades, expansions, and migrations with minimal downtime
- Develop and maintain detailed documentation on storage architecture, configurations, and procedures
- Collaborate with system and network engineering teams to ensure seamless data accessibility and application performance
- Respond to escalated incidents and perform root cause analysis and permanent corrective actions
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- 10+ years of experience with enterprise storage systems
- Deep understanding of SAN/NAS protocols and storage network concept
- Experience with storage management tools, deduplication, thin provision and raid configurations
- Familiarity with virtualization platforms and their integration with storage systems
- Experience with backup solutions
- Strong scripting and automation knowledge
Desired:
- Master's degree in related field
- Experience with DoD or Federal IT environments and compliance
- Understanding of cloud storage integrations on prem and cloud
- Familiarity with enterprise monitoring tools such as SolarWinds and Splunk
- ITIL v4 Foundations or higher
- Storage Vendor Certifications
Clearance:
- TS/SCI clearance required
Certification:
- DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
- CompTIA Security+ CE
- Microsoft AZ-104
- Vendor specific certifications
