Duties

  • You will manage the wildlife activities including species surveys, invasive species identification and control, and habitat management.
  • You will identify forestry plant life, management and ecology of southern pine forests, timber stand improvement practices and experience and knowledge of prescribed burning.
  • You will operate and proficiently use tractors and associated implements for habitat or forest management.
  • You will communicate effectively orally and in writing, including providing briefings, educational programs, maintain records, and write reports.
  • You will conduct investigations of suspected violations of criminal and civil regulations.
  • You will issue permits to authorized individuals for access to designated areas for the purpose of hunting, fishing, trapping and other authorized dispersed outdoor activities using permit sales and recreation access management services system.
  • You will respond to reported violations and takes independent and appropriate action to apprehend, detain, and charge suspects or secure the violated site for further investigation.
  • You will use proper and legal techniques to investigate violations of state and federal wildlife laws/installation regulations.
  • You will make reports that include investigative material, witness statements, pictures and other information essential to a professional investigation.

  • You must be a qualified certified Conservation Law Enforcement Officer by standards of MCO 5090.4
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements.
  • This position is designated emergency essential personnel and the position is subject to recall.
  • You are required to wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps Orders/Policies
  • You may be subject to mandatory recall during destructive weather, major incidents, or any other time emergencies determined by the command.


Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Plan, organize and conduct fish, wildlife and hunting investigations including interviews, gathering and preserving evidence, and writing reports related to criminal investigations and law enforcement operations.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

The incumbent must have and always maintain a valid state motor vehicle operator's license and on-base driving privileges and is required to operate various kinds of motorized vehicles such as, but not limited to, ATV's, four-wheel drive vehicles, and watercraft.

This position requires considerable strenuous physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, and running over rough, uneven, and hazardous terrain; crawling in restrictive areas such as culverts or thicket; lifting and carrying equipment up to 50 lbs., climbing fences or walls, handling uncooperative suspect or animals, and driving all-terrain vehicles over rough terrain or watercraft in rough waters.

This position requires dexterity, agility, and strength to pursue, apprehend, and detain uncooperative suspects.

This position is primarily in vehicles and outdoors, on land, and on the water which may expose the incumbent to numerous environmental conditions and adverse weather, such as hot, cold, wet, windy, dry, smoky, and dusty settings.

This position is subject to recall of duty during off duty hours during elevated threat level and/or emergency situations.

This position will be exposed to dangerous or aggressive people, animals, insect stings and bites, and hazardous chemicals and wastes.

You will be required to possess a government badge, enforcement commission, sidearm, radio and/or cell phone.

You must be able to swim.

Incumbent is required to maintain a high degree of physical fitness, pass an annual physical efficiency battery per MCO 5090.4, and satisfactorily pass a required medical examination annually.

Incumbent must attend and pass the Land Management Police Training (LMPT) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center within (1) year of hire.

Incumbent must be able to pass the Moderate Wildland Fire Fighting Work Capacity Test, the State Prescribed burn certification course, and pass S130 Firefighter Training and S190 Introduction to Fire Behavior.

The position requires a secret clearance.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify based on education OR equivalent combination of experience and education as follows:
  • I possess a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR
  • I have 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR

    A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
