The Journeyman AV Technician installs, configures, and operates audiovisual (AV) equipment to support command, control, and collaboration functions across USSOUTHCOM. Tyto Athene is searching for an AV Technician - Journeyman to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Journeyman AV Technician installs, configures, and operates audiovisual (AV) equipment to support command, control, and collaboration functions across USSOUTHCOM. This role requires a solid technical understanding of AV systems and the ability to support mission-critical communications infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Sets up video conferencing, production support, and collaboration technologies for mission-critical events
- Performs routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and diagnostics to resolve technical issues and optimize AV system performance
- Assists in implementing security measures to protect AV infrastructure while maintaining accessibility and interoperability
- Supports the integration of new AV technologies, working alongside engineers and technicians to address technical challenges
- Provides on-site and remote AV support for executive communications, press conferences, and classified/unclassified events
- Perform routine maintenance and firmware updates on AV hardware
- Interpret technical drawings and schematics to support installations
- Coordinate with IT/network teams for integrated AV-IP system support
- Maintain accurate inventory and document configurations and issues
- Provide user training and on-site support for command staff and meeting facilitators
Required:
- Associate's degree in Telecommunications, Information Technology, or related field
- 4-9 years of AV system support experience
- Familiarity with AV-over-IP solutions, Crestron/AMX control systems, and digital switching systems
Desired:
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- Certified Technology specialist
- ITIL v4 Foundations
- Cisco Certified Network Associate or higher
Clearance:
- Secret clearance required with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI
Certification:
- DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
- CompTIA Security+ CE
- Microsoft Teams Voice Fundamentals
- Vendor specific certifications

- Compensation is unique to each candidate and relative to the skills and experience they bring to the position. This does not guarantee a specific salary as compensation is based upon multiple factors such as education, experience, certifications, and other requirements, and may fall outside of the above-stated range.
