Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assigns, coordinates, prioritizes and directs other American Carpenters, Locksmith, Painters and Maintenance Technicians in the performance of various carpentry trade duties.
  • Provides technical assistance and guidance in the repair and/or replacement of facility components or equipment. Instructs subordinates in the maintenance of complex systems throughout the space in Controlled Access Area. Provides on-the-job training to semiskilled workers.
  • Ensure workers follow all established work procedures and Facilities Management Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Coach and counsel employees in the performance of their duties. Report deficiencies to supervisors to ensure noted deficiencies are resolved.
  • Inspects the job site, requisitions all materials needed to complete the assigned task, and ensures the availability of transportation for the work crew, tools, equipment, and materials to the job site.
  • Ensures proper preventive maintenance checks have been performed.
  • Orders materials needed to complete the assigned task. Assists the FAC management in estimating future material requirements.
  • Maintains and controls building maintenance shop supplies and tools inventories.
  • Prepares inputs for reports on the operation, preventive maintenance, testing and evaluation of pertinent equipment and systems.
  • Evaluates performance of American members of the Building Maintenance Shop.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE
  1. Education:

Completion of secondary school and vocational training or apprenticeship recognized as producing a journeyman carpenter.
  1. Prior Work Experience:

Minimum of six years of progressively responsible work experience in the construction or the operations and maintenance of building services in large modern commercial or government buildings is required. Carpentry work is to include, but not limited to, framing, rough carpentry, cabinet work, finish carpentry, and furniture repair and construction is required. Experience in maintaining building systems with equipment for carpentry work is required. Among those six years, minimum of one year of supervisory experience is required.
  1. Job Knowledge:

Must have full journeyman knowledge of established practices and procedure of the carpentry trade. Must have a general knowledge of other trade work.
  1. Skills and Abilities:

Able to communicate to keep leaders informed of activities under their direct responsibility.

Must be 21 years of age or older, have completed secondary school or obtained GED, and possess a valid driver's license. Must have oral and written communication skills sufficient to produce employee evaluations and written reports for upper management and to brief upper management on project status.

A Top Secret clearance is required.
