Tyto Athene is searching for a Senior Systems Administrator (Linux) to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Senior Linux Administrator leads the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex Linux-based to support USSOUTHCOM's mission-critical IT infrastructure. This role ensures the security, stability, and performance of Linux infrastructure, provides technical leadership, and drives automation and scripting initiatives. The Senior Administrator is responsible for architecting system solutions, mentoring junior team members, and enforcing DoD cybersecurity standards and STIG compliance across all Linux systems.

Tyto Athene is searching for a Senior Systems Administrator (Linux) to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Senior Linux Administrator leads the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex Linux-based to support USSOUTHCOM's mission-critical IT infrastructure. This role ensures the security, stability, and performance of Linux infrastructure, provides technical leadership, and drives automation and scripting initiatives. The Senior Administrator is responsible for architecting system solutions, mentoring junior team members, and enforcing DoD cybersecurity standards and STIG compliance across all Linux systems.
Responsibilities:
- Deploy and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Ubuntu, and other Linux distributions, ensuring security, scalability, and high availability
- Administer system services, user access controls, and automation tools such as Ansible and Bash scripting to enhance operational efficiency
- Monitor system performance, conducts diagnostics, and resolves complex issues to maintain reliability and compliance with DoD security policies
- Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of secure and scalable Linux environments.
- Automate system deployment, monitoring, and management tasks using tools such as Ansible and Bash/Python
- Implement patch management, system hardening, and cybersecurity measures to protect Linux environments from emerging threats
- Execute lifecycle management of Linux systems, aligning operations with risk mitigation, cybersecurity, and continuity of operations (COOP) strategies
- Troubleshoot complex system and network issues in collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Mentor junior and mid-level administrators and lead technical reviews and documentation.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in Linux systems administration in enterprise or DoD environments
- Proven expertise with Red Hat Enterprise Linux or similar distributions
- Strong experience in: Shell scripting (e.g., Bash, Python), Configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef, PKI, DNS, DHCP, and networked storage systems, STIG implementation, RMF compliance, and DISA cyber hygiene practices
- Experience administering in virtualized environments
- Ability to lead and execute major system upgrades, patching cycles, and secure configuration baselines
Desired:
- Master's degree in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline
- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
- Experience with Zero Trust architectures and tools like CyberArk and Thunderdome
- Familiarity with supporting hybrid environments
- Prior experience leading cross-functional technical teams and mentoring junior sysadmins
- ITIL v4 Foundation or higher
- Microsoft OS CE, VMware VCP/VCAP, or equivalent CE certifications (as applicable)
Clearance:
- TS/SCI clearance required
Certification:
- DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
- CompTIA Security+ CE
- CompTIA Linux+ or Red Hat Certified System Administrator
- CISSP or equivalent
