Job Description
Tyto Athene is searching for a Junior Systems Administrator (Linux) to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Junior Linux Administrator supports the configuration, installation, maintenance, and monitoring of Linux-based systems in a secure, mission-critical DoD environment. The role provides hands-on experience with Red Hat systems, basic scripting, and enterprise-level system administration, while supporting system hardening, compliance, and availability objectives under the supervision of senior personnel.

Tyto Athene is searching for a Junior Systems Administrator (Linux) to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Junior Linux Administrator supports the configuration, installation, maintenance, and monitoring of Linux-based systems in a secure, mission-critical DoD environment. The role provides hands-on experience with Red Hat systems, basic scripting, and enterprise-level system administration, while supporting system hardening, compliance, and availability objectives under the supervision of senior personnel.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux systems
- Assist with installation, configuration, and patching of Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems.
- Monitor system performance and assist in troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues on Linux platforms
- Support the implementation of DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides and participate in RMF-related documentation efforts
- Perform user and group management, file system administration, and basic permission troubleshooting
- Help manage system services and scheduled jobs
- Maintain accurate documentation of configurations, changes, and troubleshooting steps, contributing to team knowledge sharing.
- Participate in vulnerability remediation tasks including application of security updates and coordination with cybersecurity teams
- Assist with integration and maintenance of identity and access control systems including CyberArk and 802.1X
- Maintain awareness of Thunderdome Zero Trust Architecture guidelines as applied to Linux systems
Required:
- Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred
- 0-3 years of hands-on experience in Linux systems administration
- Familiarity with Red Hat Enterprise Linux or similar Linux distributions
- Basic knowledge of Bash or shell scripting
- Understanding of fundamental networking concepts (e.g., DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP)
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, or on-call rotations as needed
Desired:
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).
- Exposure to VMware or configuration tools
- Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity best practices and STIG compliance
Certification:
- DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
- CompTIA Security+ CE
- CompTIA Linux+
Compensation:
- Compensation is unique to each candidate and relative to the skills and experience they bring to the position. This does not guarantee a specific salary as compensation is based upon multiple factors such as education, experience, certifications, and other requirements, and may fall outside of the above-stated range.
