Tyto Athene is searching for a Systems Administrator (Linux) - Journeyman to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Journeyman Linux Administrator manages and supports Linux systems in accordance with operational and security requirements. This position is responsible for system configuration, patching, user management, and incident resolution. The Journeyman contributes to system documentation, enforces security baselines, and participates in efforts to improve reliability and automation. They serve as a mid-level technical resource and may assist in mentoring junior staff.

Tyto Athene is searching for a Systems Administrator (Linux) - Journeyman to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Journeyman Linux Administrator manages and supports Linux systems in accordance with operational and security requirements. This position is responsible for system configuration, patching, user management, and incident resolution. The Journeyman contributes to system documentation, enforces security baselines, and participates in efforts to improve reliability and automation. They serve as a mid-level technical resource and may assist in mentoring junior staff.
Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, manage and maintain Linux based systems to support organizational operations and IT infrastructure
- Configure and deploy Red Hat Enterprise Linux or similar distributions in accordance with project requirements
- Conducts routine system updates, kernel patching, and software upgrades to maintain system stability, security, and functionality in compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements
- Create, manage, and troubleshoot user accounts, permissions, and file systems
- Monitor system performance and ensure system availability and reliability
- Develop and maintain scripts using Bash, Python, or other tools to automate administrative tasks
- Perform system backups and support disaster recovery operations
- Participate in vulnerability remediation efforts, including scanning, tracking, and reporting
- Ensure compliance with RMF, DISA STIGs, and DoD IA controls
- Documents system configurations, processes, and procedures, contributing to knowledge bases and training materials for team members
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Network, Cybersecurity, and Windows Admin teams
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues related to Linux systems
Required:
- Associate's degree in Information Technology, Network Administration, or related field
- 4-9 years of experience in Linux administration
- Strong experience with Linux command-line tools, file systems, package management, and shell scripting
- Familiarity with NFS, LDAP, SSH, and network services on Linux systems
- Experience working in a virtualized environment
Desired:
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- Familiarity with DoD RMF and STIG configurations
- Experience with DevOps tools
- Exposure to VMware, Docker, or Kubernetes
- Hands-on experience with Cloud environments
- Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity policies and best practices
- CISSP
Clearance:
- TS/SCI clearance required
Certification:
- DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
- CompTIA Security+ CE
- CompTIA Linux+ or Red Hat Certified System Administrator

- Compensation is unique to each candidate and relative to the skills and experience they bring to the position. This does not guarantee a specific salary as compensation is based upon multiple factors such as education, experience, certifications, and other requirements, and may fall outside of the above-stated range.
