Job Description

Tyto Athene is searching for a Senior Virtualization Engineer to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.

The Senior Virtualization Engineer develops, designs, implements, and manages virtualized infrastructures and storage solutions, aligning them with organizational needs and optimizing performance across all systems. Oversees the planning, configuration, and deployment of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and storage systems (e.g., SAN, NAS, cloud storage), maintaining high availability, scalability, and security. Identifies and resolves complex virtualization and storage-related issues, optimizing system performance, storage capacity, and system integration.

Responsibilities:
  • Establishes scalable, secure, and high-performance virtualization architectures, integrating hypervisors, containers, and cloud-based solutions
  • Leads the deployment, configuration, and optimization of virtualization platforms, including VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Kubernetes, ensuring seamless workload mobility and resource efficiency.
  • Identifies and resolves complex virtualization and storage-related issues, optimizing system performance, storage capacity, and system integration.
  • Analyzes current virtualization and storage infrastructure, recommending upgrades or adjustments to improve system efficiency, reduce costs, and meet future demands.
  • Collaborates with internal teams and stakeholders to develop strategies for storage management, disaster recovery, and data retention.
  • Establishes and enforces best practices for managing virtual machines, storage configurations, and backups to provide reliable data accessibility and security
  • Implements security controls, access management, and backup strategies to protect virtual environments and maintain compliance with DoD regulations.
  • Lead enforcement of DISA STIG compliance within the image lifecycle
  • Develops automation frameworks, scripting solutions, and monitoring tools to streamline operations and improve system visibility.
  • Supports mission-critical applications by delivering secure, scalable, and high-performance virtualization solutions across global operational environments.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with security, networking, and operations teams
  • Support configuration control processes and enterprise release readiness for new builds

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field
  • 10+ years of virtualization or systems engineering experience.
  • Proven expertise in VM image management, VMware platform engineering, and IA compliance
  • Demonstrated experience applying STIGs and working in RMF environments.

Desired:
  • Master's degree in technical discipline.
  • Strong experience in automation/orchestration tools.
  • Familiarity with Azure virtual infrastructure and on-prem cloud integration.
  • CompTIA Cloud+
  • CISSP or CASP+ or equivalent

Clearance:
  • TS/SCI clearance required

Certification:
  • DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
  • CompTIA Security+ CE
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104)
  • VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization

  • Compensation is unique to each candidate and relative to the skills and experience they bring to the position. This does not guarantee a specific salary as compensation is based upon multiple factors such as education, experience, certifications, and other requirements, and may fall outside of the above-stated range.
