As the Data Scientist/Software Engineer, you will be on a dynamic team providing technical and programmatic support to the VIRGINIA Class Submarine Program Office (PMS450) and the U.S. Navy's Team Submarine Program Offices at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC! Serco supports the US Navy as a prime for their Team Submarine SHAPM contract supporting the acquisition of submarines.
PMS450 is the acquisition program office for the New Construction of Attack Submarines and for identifying, assembling, managing, directing, and coordinating the resources required for the R&D, design, construction, Test and Evaluation (T&E), Live Fire Test and Evaluation (LFT&E), and Fleet introduction of the U.S. Navy's newest class of nuclear attack submarines.
PMS450 is responsible for developing and deploying a more affordable, nuclear-powered attack submarine with multi-mission capability and enhanced capabilities for performance in littoral areas. VIRGINIA Class submarines support five of the six Navy core maritime capabilities: Deterrence, Maritime Security, Sea Control, Forward Presence, and Power Projection.

In this role, you will:
- Assist and participate in the system product life-cycle technical areas to include requirements, design, implementation, sustainment, and integration of systems supported by the PMS 450 technical team (SERCO).
- Prepare and assist System Engineering Technical Reviews (SETRs) such as Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews (CDRs), Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), etc.
- Manage, report, and mitigate technical risks communicating progress to internal and external stakeholders.
- Decompose system capability into software/hardware and process requirements, collaborating with stakeholders on system requirements and articulating perspectives/concerns during system engineering collaborative events.
- Assist in scoping technical project efforts including planning, scheduling, performance tracking, and coordination of resources.
- Provide Courses of Action and trade-off analysis to inform design decisions considering cost, schedule, and performance.
- Generate technical documentation and artifacts such as System Engineering Plans, Configuration Management Plans, and Interface Control Documents
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Active or Current DoD Secret clearance.
- US Citizenship
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Engineering
- An Associates Degree and 2 years of additional experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor's degree or a High School Diploma/GED and 4 years of additional experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor's degree.
- 1 year of experience in Software Engineering (This can include internships, undergraduate work, and graduate assistantships.)
- 1 year of group experience in Software Engineering and Technical Project Management (This can include internships, undergraduate work, and graduate assistantships.)

Additional desired experience and skills:
- An Active or Current DoD Secret clearance
- Work experience in the Navy and specifically within Team Submarine or submarines in general.
- Knowledge of DoD policies, NAVSEASYSCOM/Team Submarine policies and procedures.
