- Assist in developing and implementing an effective Reliability and Maintainability (R&M) process that aligns with user weapon system requirements and mission partner agreements.
- Ensure the R&M process is consistent with program acquisition, sustainment, and disposal strategies and is clearly integrated within the IMP/IMS.
- Promote the application of an integrity approach to reliable and maintainable design.
- Assist in verifying incremental R&M achievement at program milestones.
- Review Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) and reliability standard reports.
- Work with the G081 database to monitor and analyze failure reporting from the field.
- Assist in managing Deficiency Reports (DRs), ensuring proper classification and detailed resolution.
Engineering Principles and Airworthiness:
- Apply an understanding of DoD, AF, and common engineering/scientific principles to improve performance and sustainability of existing and future AF and joint service weapon systems.
- Apply an understanding of MIL-HDBK-516C Airworthiness Certification Criteria to aircraft systems and subsystems.
- Support System Integrity Programs, including the Mechanical Systems Integrity Program (MECSIP).
- Assist in maintaining and updating the Critical Safety Item (CSI) list.
- Monitor airworthiness certification for mission partner aircraft.
- Understand and execute Air Force Policy Directive (AFPD) 62-6, USAF Airworthiness, associated AFIs, and Airworthiness Bulletins.
System Design and Analysis:
- Assist in reviewing overall system design baselines (architecture and interoperability requirements).
- Review and analyze OEM technical proposals or modifications for design feasibility and system compatibility.
- Conduct or assist in conducting performance effectiveness, cost effectiveness, cost performance, life-cycle cost, producibility, maintainability, supportability, reliability, technical, and schedule risk assessments.
- Perform or assist in performing systems analyses, including system design/design feasibility and state-of-the-art assessments.
- Assist in performing material solution analyses leading up to design reviews.
Requirements Management and Documentation:
- Assist in translating user requirements into weapons system requirements for design, development, fabrication, testing, and evaluation.
- Support the development of requirements and technology needs into action plans and policies.
- Assist in performing technical/mission analysis of existing and future operational requirements.
- Assist in developing system concepts and perform technological/trade-off assessments of proposed designs/modifications.
- Assist in producing or supporting the development of draft documentation and presentation materials.
- Assist in translating user requirements into system requirements for design, development, fabrication, testing, and evaluation.
- Assist in developing and collecting technical data and inputs for staff summary packages and executive briefings.
Technical Support and Problem Solving:
- Provide rapid response engineering service and support as augmentation to organic resources.
- Assist in in-depth problem identification, impact assessment, and development of corrective actions for critical supportability problems.
- Assist in analyzing equipment and software deficiencies; make recommendations for corrections; and assist in developing, integrating, and testing solutions.
- Assist in the engineering evaluation of prime and subcontractor recommendations for operational and support issues.
System Safety and Risk Management:
- Support and assist in conducting the system safety engineering program, including mishap risk assessments.
- Evaluate contractor safety proposals and safety analyses.
- Evaluate safety concerns of using and support commands.
- Assist with resolution of high-priority safety issues.
- Assist in providing risk assessments, safety analysis and recommendations, and address high priority safety issues.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Assist in providing support to produce or review products including technical evaluations/plans; engineering studies, reports, and analyses; and acquisition strategies/plans (ICD, ORD/CDD, CONOPS, CPD, SRD, System Specification, RFPs, SEP, TEMP, ATPs, PESHE, information support plan, PPP, TA/CP, emerging technology assessments, TTPs, IAS, SCG, Alternative Live Fire Test and Evaluation Plan, CCA compliance, Data Management Strategy, CBRN Survivability Assessments, Net-Centric Data Strategy, Spectrum Supportability Determination, Technical Data Rights Strategy, TRA, MRA, and other program/technical documents).
- Assist in producing and/or reviewing technical evaluations, engineering studies, reports, analyses, and acquisition plans and strategies.
Meetings and Reviews:
- Support project team meetings, working groups, and reviews as needed (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, TCM, TIM, FCA, PCA, PRR, PMR, and other meetings/working groups/reviews).
Engineering Processes and Standards:
- Assist in the development and evaluation of IMP, IMS, and Systems Engineering Detail Schedule (SEDS) engineering cost estimates.
- Perform an advisory role for program weapon system contractor source selections on all engineering-related requirements.
- Assist in the performance of disciplined engineering activities to assure OSS&E for all products.
- Follow the Life Cycle Systems Engineering (LCSE) and OSS&E-related AFIs and all lower-level supplements.
- Assist with establishing, implementing, and adhering to LCSE processes to ensure OSS&E compliance.
- Aid in reviewing and updating the OSS&E baseline document.
- Support the identification of OSS&E elements and progress reporting of OSS&E metrics.
- Assist with the implementation of the SEP and advise on shortfalls or gaps.
- Participate in value stream mapping activities and Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century (AFSO21) program facilitation.
Other Responsibilities:
- Assist in translating production and operational requirements into design, fabrication, and testing objectives.
- Provide analysis and recommendations on systems suitability for installation, functionality, reliability, and manufacturing process readiness.
- Assist in generating and managing configuration management, data management, and risk management processes and plans.
- Support environmental assessments, design reviews, TIMs, interface control meetings, program management reviews, audits, and other technical reviews.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of DR procedures and processes.
- Apply OSS&E and airworthiness processes.

Required Experience
One of the following:
-
- Bachelor's degree in an ABET-accredited engineering discipline and a minimum of 15 years of relevant technical or professional experience, five (5) must be in the DoD -OR-
- Bachelor's degree from ABET-accredited engineering discipline plus a Master's degree in engineering (Master's degree is not required to be ABET-accredited), and twelve (12) years of relevant technical or professional experience, five (5) of which must be in the DoD
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance; U.S. Citizenship required
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams), & Adobe Acrobat
