The Boeing Company is currently hiring a Software Engineering Manager to support the C-17 Mission Software Team in Long Beach, CA. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Global Services (BGS) business organization. This manager will lead a team of engineers that designs and develops flight software solutions for the U.S. Air Force and Foreign Military customers.

The C-17 Mission Software Team develops and test associated safety critical flight software in a fast paced agile engineering environment. Successful candidates will work closely with systems engineering teams, customers, suppliers, and field service representatives. Candidates will research and integrate new technologies to both modernize and sustain fleets of the world's finest airlift platform. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to deliver new capabilities using the latest engineering techniques to design and test C-17 flight systems.

The successful candidate will have a passion for working with people and delivering exceptional products to our customers, with a focus on safety and quality. Additionally, to capture the significant opportunities across the team, the successful candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to translate strategy to action in alignment with the organization's mission and vision.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Develops and motivates employees
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with direct reports, customers, peers, business partners, and other stakeholders
  • Develops and executes project and process plans, implements policies and procedures, and works closely with other C-17 teams
  • Acquires resources for projects and processes, provides technical management of suppliers, and leads process improvements
  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products, and processes
  • Travel domestically and internationally


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
  • 3+ years of experience in managing or leading a team in the software development discipline
  • Experience with Product Management Principles & Methodologies
  • 7+ years of experience in software development


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelors, Master's, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, or technical degree
  • Experience with real-time embedded and Linux operating systems
  • Experience with integrated avionics systems
  • Cloud application development and deployment expertise
  • Earned Value Management (EVM) or project management
  • Experience with Agile Software Development
  • Experience with Ada, C/C++, configuration management, and DOORS
  • Knowledge of airworthiness and flight certification processes

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range: $167,000 - $209,000

Security Clearance
