Visionist has an exciting new opportunity for a Lead Developer. Lead a team transitioning a prototype large language model (LLM) framework into a scalable, production-ready system serving thousands of users. You'll help build a premier, enterprise-level frontier LLM for developers, analysts, and leadership at a critical defense organization. Collaborate with the original prototype team to ensure a smooth transition to production, improving stability and expanding capabilities. You'll work with government stakeholders to gather requirements and lead your team in prioritizing and delivering new features. This role also includes deploying the LLM on AWS, strengthening the supporting infrastructure, and implementing security measures to meet high-level accreditation standards.

Your contributions are...
- Collaborate with the prototype team to transition the existing LLM tool suite to a production-ready service
- Lead a team of developers and system administrators in the design, deployment, and maintenance of the enterprise system
- Coordinate with the lead systems engineer to keep development efforts aligned and on schedule
- Design and implement compliance controls to meet accreditation requirements
- Develop new features across the LLM's communication and business logic layers
- Monitor and optimize application performance, with a focus on backend efficiency
- Stay current on trends and advancements in LLM technologies and architectures
Requirements for your new career...
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline
- 20 years of experience in software development
- Experience leading small to mid-sized teams building enterprise software for diverse user bases
- Production-grade development experience in enterprise languages such as Java or Python
- Experience maintaining user interfaces that interact with RESTful backends (e.g., ReactJS, Angular)
- Experience with Docker-based container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker Swarm)
- Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI/CD)
- Deep knowledge of AWS services and experience deploying medium-scale applications in AWS environments
- Familiarity with configuring monitoring and metrics platforms (e.g., Prometheus, ELK stack)
- Familiarity with LLM technologies, including usage patterns, best practices, and limitations
- Understanding of AI/LLM design paradigms such as RAG, agentic workflows, and prompt engineering
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional team coordination
