In this role, you'll help safeguard the mental health and emotional well-being of children in the custody of the Department of Homeland Security along the U.S. Southwest Border.

What You'll Do
As a Behavioral Health Specialist, you'll support children in federal care by conducting well-being assessments, advising facility staff, and helping create safer, more emotionally supportive environments.
Core Responsibilities
- Serve as the point of contact for behavioral health and child well-being matters
- Conduct routine rounds to assess emotional and behavioral health
- Deliver trauma-informed crisis intervention and de-escalation
- Provide guidance on emotional regulation and behavioral care strategies
- Collaborate with CBP, HHS ORR, NGOs, and care providers to coordinate wraparound support
- Support complex clinical decisions involving developmental, psychological, or medical concerns
- Document all behavioral health interventions and maintain accurate records
- Recommend process improvements to strengthen child-centered care
This position follows a rotating 4-on/3-off and 3-on/4-off schedule to support 24/7 coverage:
- Week 1: 4 days on, 3 days off (48 hours)
- Week 2: 3 days on, 4 days off (36 hours)
- Day Shift: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM
- Night Shift: 8:00 PM - 8:00 AM
- Rotating weekends and holidays included
- Master's or Doctoral degree in a behavioral health field
- Active, unrestricted license as one of the following:
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW/LICSW)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
- Licensed Psychologist (LP)
- At least 2 years of post-licensure experience in:
- Child development
- Trauma-informed care
- Clinical evaluations
- Experience working in multidisciplinary or high-urgency care settings
- Spanish/English bilingual preferred (minimum ILR 3/5 or equivalent)
- Ability to adapt to evolving program needs and dynamic team environments
- Help protect and support vulnerable children in crisis
