What You'll Do
As a Linux Systems Administrator II, you’ll be part of a skilled IT team supporting secure, mission-critical systems for the Department of Defense. Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Installing, configuring, patching, and maintaining Linux systems (especially Red Hat Enterprise Linux) in virtual and physical environments.
- Troubleshooting system issues and optimizing performance across development, lab, and production networks.
- Performing DISA STIG compliance checks and remediating security vulnerabilities to maintain DoD cybersecurity posture.
- Supporting VMware virtualization, system hardening, and secure infrastructure operations.
- Collaborating with Cybersecurity teams, vendors, and IT stakeholders to ensure system uptime and compliance.
- Occasional support of after-hours maintenance and equipment relocation (up to 35 lbs).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree + 2 years of experience, or 6+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
- Experience in Linux systems administration (RHEL preferred)
- Active Secret clearance (TS/SCI highly desirable)
- CompTIA Security+ CE (or equivalent per DoD 8570.01-M)
- Ability to work onsite in Colorado Springs, CO at Schriever Air Force Base
- Able to lift up to 35 lbs and participate in after-hours support rotations
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
- Experience interpreting and remediating DISA STIGs
- Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory administration
- Experience with virtualization technologies (especially VMware)
- Proficiency in scripting/automation (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell, Ansible)
- Knowledge of identity management (IPA/IDM), Kickstart installations
- Background in network configuration (switches, routers, firewalls)
- Exposure to cybersecurity tools and secure operations
- Familiarity with Agile, SAFe, or DevSecOps environments
- DoD or Government IT system experience
