Job Description
Rate: $30/hr
Position Responsibilities:
Aleut is searching for an enthusiastic and experienced seasonal experiential-based learning (EBL) instructor with a solid safety record who can provide experiential-based leadership instruction to USAFA permanent party, cadets, and external Department of Defense (DoD) customers. The support period will be four months beginning in May 2025.

Job Description

Position Responsibilities:
Aleut is searching for an enthusiastic and experienced seasonal experiential-based learning (EBL) instructor with a solid safety record who can provide experiential-based leadership instruction to USAFA permanent party, cadets, and external Department of Defense (DoD) customers. The support period will be four months beginning in May 2025.
The scope of work will include:
- Providing hands-on support for summer EBL program development and execution
- Assisting in creating the Summer EBL program curriculum and documents, and with scheduling and logistics planning for EBL programs
- Assisting with pre-event practices, walkthroughs, and logistical rehearsals to ensure safe and successful Ropes Course execution
- Supporting course safety inspections, course refinements, and simple repairs as directed
- Meeting with mission element (ME) representatives, and observing ME practices to identify opportunities to use Ropes Course experiences to support mission objectives
- Supporting the CCLD Director of Experiential-Based Learning with writing, researching, editing, and supporting the Ropes Course educational plans and curriculum
- Assisting with the review and production of the Operating Instruction, the Instructor Handbook, and the review and production of the e-Lesson Plan and Assessment
- Attending periodic CCLD staff meetings and weekly management meetings
- Providing weekly and monthly project status information for the CCLD Director of Experiential-Based Learning via email, PowerPoint, and in-person
Job Requirements:
General:
- Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) Level 1 practitioner's certification or equivalent experience
- Basic Life Support (First Aid, CPR, AED) or Wilderness First Aid certification
- Must be able to complete a T-1 (Public Trust) review to enable base access
- Must be able to walk, stand, climb stairs, and move for extended periods on uneven surfaces, and have the ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds of gear or program equipment
Education:
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in outdoor education, leadership, or similar disciplines, plus three years' experience applying concepts and working with groups in developmental environments, is preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of one year of experience in outdoor education or experiential-based learning and event organization (types: ropes course, teambuilding, experiential-education, education workshops/webinars)
- Background in outdoor education or experiential-based learning to include outdoor challenges, teambuilding, and life lessons-style education
- Knowledge of curriculum development and event execution is desired
Preferred Qualifications:
- Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association (ROHVA) certification
- Ability to work in the high operations tempo of a quasi-university environment founded on military standards
- Familiarity with using DoD, USAF, and USAFA instructions and guidelines for the conduct of work
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, and demonstrates good program management skills
- Experience working in a military environment with knowledge of rank, protocol, and culture
Climbing Wall Instructor Certification is desired but not required.
