As the Site Safety and Health Officer , your primary duty and responsibility is to prepare and enforce the contractor's safety program on this power contract. The SSHO develops, implements, and manages the environmental, safety and health (ES&H) programs for the Company and ensures those programs conform to established standards, applicable regulatory requirements, and customer specifications. The SSHO manages and leads ES&H initiatives on-site and coordinates ES&H products and service delivery to operations in support of contract requirements and develops health standards as outlined by regulatory agencies to prevent worksite hazards and diseases. The SSHO has full authority and responsibility for assuring performance objectives and standards identified in the contract for ES&H are met.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Provides safety induction training to all staff on-site, conducting necessary safety audits of all suppliers/sub-contractors and recommends all necessary remedial measures
  • Prepares weekly and monthly site safety progress reports, reviewing all sub-contractor's reports before submittal to the Site Manager
  • Provides technical expertise for implementation of safety programs, processes, and strategies
  • Interprets local Honduran, Department of Defense and military policy, standards, and regulations regarding employee safety and develops policies and procedures to ensure compliance
  • Ensures personnel training and corrective action follow-up is completed; performs worksite safety analysis, hazard prevention and control analysis, comprehensive safety reviews, safety inspections, and injury prevention analysis
  • Conducts risk analysis to determine severity of safety issues and/or discrepancies and defines and supports remedial courses of action
  • Develops and implements incident investigation and data analysis to determine causes and provides management with recommendations to prevent recurrence
  • Conducts on-site reviews and audits of operations and facilities
  • Compiles safety statistics, develops metrics to determine compliance performance, and prepares analysis and reports for action or information by management
  • Provides technical assistance to other departments, including business development and risk management; monitors all current information on regulations and requirements related to hazardous materials and agents
  • Directs occupational and general safety programs to ensure a safe environment and compliance with safety standards
  • Responds and provides assistance in all emergency situations


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree with a focus in Environmental Health or Industrial Hygiene preferred; Energy production and distribution work experience may be evaluated as an acceptable substitute for degree
  • Must have taken the OSHA 30-hour construction safety course or equivalent within the last five years
  • Must have an average of at least 24 hours of safety training per year for the past five years
  • Must have at least five years of demonstrated relevant energy production experience in preparing and enforcing safety programs in projects of similar size, scope, and complexity; large workforce, contract size of $50M+
