POSITION SUMMARY
The Network Systems Engineer will be an integral part of a team that works collaboratively with government stakeholders, site personnel, network professionals, security, and systems engineers. The engineer will install, configure, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices as part of the STATEFARM government mission systems/networks to ensure network infrastructure performance, security compliance, and readiness at Robins AFB, GA, as well as other customer locations. Key aspects are to ensure the operational network aligns with mission goals and objectives, further grows the capabilities available to the customer base, and supports operational and ISR mission requirements.
The Network Engineer supports the Air Force (AF) Distributed Common Ground System (DCGS) and STATEFARM programs by designing, maintaining, and optimizing network infrastructures that enable secure, mission-critical communications across multiple locations. This position ensures the reliable transfer of mission-essential data over LANs, WANs, and classified communications networks at Robins AFB and other STATEFARM operational sites across CONUS and OCONUS locations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Plan, design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure for AF DCGS and STATEFARM operations, including secure LAN, WAN, and classified environments.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot network hardware and software (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls).
- Collaborate with Systems Engineers and PMO personnel to test network components and validate performance at Robins AFB and other STATEFARM locations.
- Perform network monitoring to evaluate deployed changes, customer impact, and performance metrics, identify issues, bottlenecks, or security vulnerabilities, and learn from the experience. Then, report to the PMO.
- Develop and enforce network policies and procedures that align with cybersecurity standards and PMO requirements.
- Produce detailed network diagrams, drawings, and other documentation as defined by the PMO.
- Participate in engineering peer reviews as a document originator or reviewer to ensure that technical quality and engineering rigor are appropriate.
- Review system engineering documentation to ensure test plans and methodologies meet system needs and are accurate, comprehensive, consistent, and complete.
- Support hardware and software configuration management, inventory tracking, and license management.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, vendors, and site teams to resolve connectivity issues and implement infrastructure improvements.
- Maintain baseline network configurations, support infrastructure planning for future STATEFARM expansions or upgrades, and ensure continuous operational availability.
- Assist with the establishment of network standards.
- Ensure all systems and devices meet operational performance thresholds and DoD cybersecurity compliance standards.
- Attend planning and requirements meetings with IT staff, the program manager, and customers.
- Support site surveys, install, and configure network solutions.
- Manage periodic maintenance, hardware upgrades, replacement, firmware updates, and system configuration changes.
- Oversee analysis, troubleshooting, and performing root cause analysis of the system, as well as secure data communications network and anomalies to ensure optimum performance.
- Engage vendor support and customer technical assets to determine the troubleshooting methodology to use in resolving or determining the root cause.
- Support the development of system integration plans, procedures, and scenarios for software/hardware system integration testing.
- Support major project initiatives and develop configurations using expertise in routing protocols, firewalls, security requirements, and network virtualization.
- Design, develop, build, and test network engineering solutions as part of a team for new technologies and/or improve existing technologies in compliance with established practices, and can be executed in accordance with project technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
- Provide ad-hoc engineering support, statistics/data gathering, and reporting.
EDUCATION/TRAINING
- Required: Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Network Administration, or a related field.
- Preferred: Master's Degree in Network Security or Systems Engineering.
- Required Certification: IAT Level II (e.g., CompTIA Security+) or ability to obtain upon hire within 3 months.
- Preferred Certifications: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 10 years of experience in network engineering, including design, installation, and troubleshooting of enterprise network systems.
- Strong experience with DoD networking environments and secure communication protocols.
- Hands-on experience managing routers, switches, firewalls, and network monitoring tools.
- Familiarity with configuration management, documentation standards, and classified network protocols.
- Possess knowledge of networking services and standard networking protocols.
- Experience supporting geographically distributed network infrastructures and CONUS/OCONUS site coordination preferred.
- Experience working with AF DCGS.
- At least four (4) years of government contract work or equivalent experience is a plus.
- Cloud Network experience is a plus.
SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, VPN, VLANs, routing protocols, and network security principles.
- Ability to analyze and resolve complex network issues independently and collaboratively.
- Proficient in drafting technical documentation, including diagrams, schematics, and configuration records.
- Skilled in interfacing with technical and non-technical personnel, including government stakeholders.
- Familiarity with change management, version control, and continuous network performance improvement.
- Ability to support VMware networking, storage, and VM hosts.
- Ability to support storage area network technologies.
- Ability to solve problems and think critically.
- Familiarity with encryption devices and configurations.
- Experience with DoD STIGs and compliance.
- Ability to work independently and as a team; Interpersonal relationship skills are a must.
- Technical documentation and analysis experience.
- Extensive knowledge of Cisco networking equipment and design/engineering methodologies and best practices.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Must be able to use a computer and related equipment for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs occasionally while on location for installations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This is an on-site position that requires work to be performed onsite at a government location in Warner Robins, GA.
- The working conditions for this position may include the following:
- Working indoors in an office environment.

- Must be able to pass pre-employment background screening.
- Must have and be able to maintain a Top-Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
- Must be cleared for base or site access.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be available for a flexible work schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must possess a current U.S. Passport.
- Must comply with all network security and documentation policies as directed by the PMO.
- The position may require up to 30% travel to site locations to support technical meetings, installations, and de-installations of network equipment.
