POSITION SUMMARY

The Instructor - Narrowband SATCOM Operations provides direct instructional support to 10th Space Operations Squadron (10 SOPS) at Point Mugu, California, with a focus on Narrowband Space Vehicle Operator (SVO), MUOS SVO, and Narrowband Mission Director (MD) qualification training. This position includes classroom and mission-based simulator instruction, curriculum development, and coordination of courseware updates in accordance with Air Force Instructional Systems Development (ISD) models and USSF guidance.

The instructor will ensure training aligns with Space Delta 8's operational requirements by leveraging expertise in Narrowband MILSATCOM operations, maintaining instructional readiness, and supporting simulator management. This role supports up to three core courses annually with additional augmentation for SATCOM Fundamentals instruction as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Deliver formal instruction for all Narrowband training courses.
  • Review, revise, or create instructional content in accordance with 8 TS Mission Task List (MTL), Ready Space crew Task Memorandum (RTM), and higher headquarters guidance, estimating 15 hours of development per hour of classroom instruction.
  • Assist in managing simulator operations, including scheduling, troubleshooting, and coordinating with SSC, STARCOM, and vendors such as Sonalyst and L3 Harris.
  • Operate and support simulator platforms such as the Standard Space Trainer (SST), and Test and Training Simulator (TTS).
  • Adhere to ISD methodology as defined in DAFMAN 36-2675, incorporating lesson plan objectives that align with Ready Spacecrew Program (RSP) goals.
  • Communicate curriculum updates through instruction, email, curriculum trackers, and formal briefings.
  • Support after-action reporting, student evaluations, and lesson improvement tracking.
  • Work cooperatively with unit personnel to maintain updated courseware and support readiness reporting and HHQ RSP development cycles.
  • Participate in professional development and maintain currency on Narrowband MILSATCOM doctrine, systems, and training tools.

EDUCATION/TRAINING
  • Required: High School diploma.
  • Preferred: Completion of a recognized military instructor course.

EXPERIENCE

Required:
  • Experience with SATCOM operations and MILSATCOM systems
  • Familiarity with USSF MILSATCOM command-and-control structures
  • Ability to collaborate respectfully and productively across team and organizational boundaries
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, SharePoint)

Preferred:
  • 2+ years delivering classroom or simulator-based platform instruction
  • Experience developing ISD-based training materials including lesson plans, assessments, and courseware
  • Familiarity with operating simulators supporting MILSATCOM training
  • Exposure to Wideband and Protected Band systems in addition to Narrowband

  • Clear and effective communicator, both written and verbal.
  • Strong technical instruction skills and ability to engage diverse learners.
  • Organized and detail-oriented; capable of managing course loads and deliverables.
  • Team player with a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to adapt instructional approaches to student performance and feedback.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to use a computer and related equipment for prolonged periods.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This is an Onsite position that requires work to be performed onsite at a government location.
  • The working conditions for this position may include the following:
  • Working indoors in an office environment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background screening.
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a Top-Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • Must be able to be cleared for base or site access.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Position may require up to 10% travel to CONUS government facilities for training support, exchange meetings, or collaboration.
  • Salary Range- $105K-$120K
