Job Summary:

The Senior Systems Administrator provides expert-level support for UNIX/Linux systems across the Defense Logistics Agency's (DLA) enterprise environments, including NIPRNet and SIPRNet. This position is critical to ensuring stability, performance, security, and continuous operation of mission-critical infrastructure in support of DLA's Technology Foundation Services. The administrator will perform hands-on system installation, configuration, and maintenance while ensuring compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) cybersecurity standards and enterprise IT policies.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, install, configure, maintain, and optimize UNIX and Linux systems, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), HP-UX, and Solaris.
  • Monitor system performance, logs, and alerts; troubleshoot and resolve system faults and outages.
  • Apply security patches, perform upgrades, and implement configuration changes to maintain system integrity and compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) findings, and other DoD cybersecurity requirements.
  • Manage user accounts, privileges, and access controls via Red Hat Identity Manager (IDM).
  • Implement and support COTS applications including HBSS, Splunk, ArcSight, and Trellix as required.
  • Support backup and disaster recovery operations, including participation in COOP and DR planning and testing.
  • Automate routine administrative tasks using scripts and system management tools.
  • Collaborate with government system administrators and stakeholders on technical projects, system architecture, and configuration decisions.
  • Provide technical documentation, support change management processes, and participate in infrastructure reviews and audits.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements (Education/Skills/Experience):

  • Clearance: Must possess an active DoD Secret clearance
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of specialized IT experience, with at least 4 years of hands-on experience in installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise systems.
  • Certifications: RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator) or CompTIA Linux+, issued by a nationally recognized technical authority.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Advanced knowledge of Red Hat Linux (v7+), HP-UX (v11.31+), and Solaris (v11+).
    • Experience with system clustering, virtualization, high availability, and load balancing.
    • Familiarity with enterprise IT monitoring and security tools, including log analysis and vulnerability remediation.
