Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Linux Engineer to work in support of a contract with the Department of Energy and the National Nuclear Security Agency OCIO. The NNSA has multiple offices and facilities across the United States, with its headquarters in Washington D.C. These offices and facilities are responsible for various aspects of nuclear security, including stockpile management, nonproliferation, and nuclear security. The Linux Engineer will design, implement, and optimize Linux systems, provide Tier 2 support for complex technical issues. Manage both physical and virtual Linux servers, focusing on performance, security, and scalability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and drive continuous improvements in processes and system efficiency. This is an on-site position in Washington, DC .

Requirements:
- Active Top Secret Clearance
- 5+ years of experience or demonstrated expertise in Linux Engineering
- Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, account management, and patching of Linux/UNIX systems, ensuring systems meet organizational needs and remain up-to-date.
- Develop and support RHEL 9.x shell scripting for various networking and server-based tasks, utilizing Bash, Python, or other automation languages.
- Support Ansible deployment on RHEL 9.x or greater, including playbook creation, testing, and optimization to ensure automated system configuration and management.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability by filling knowledge gaps in Linux distributions outside of RHEL (e.g., CentOS, Ubuntu) as needed.
- Manage and support Splunk deployments on RHEL 9.x, ensuring integration with other systems and smooth performance monitoring for enterprise-wide deployments.
- Implement and maintain Linux security best practices using SELinux, iptables, fapolicyd, file/directory permissions, and ownership for enhanced system hardening.
- Take ownership of OS patching and maintenance across all Linux-based systems, ensuring timely updates and security patches to protect against vulnerabilities.
- Implement, operate, and maintain physical and virtual server hardware and systems software, providing high availability, scalability, and performance optimization.
- Provide technical support, administration, and monitoring of Linux systems across physical and virtual environments, ensuring maximum uptime and performance.
- Contribute to deliverables, including performance metrics and reporting for system health, reliability, and efficiency improvements.
- Manage the decommissioning of servers, ensuring proper removal, recycling, and compliance with approved engineering change solutions.
- Install, configure, and remove service applications and scripting components as necessary to support system operations.
- Maintain accurate server hardware and software assets inventory in line with vendor and lease compliance requirements, ensuring proper lifecycle management.
- Conduct capacity planning and tuning for server resources, ensuring systems are optimized for current and future needs.
- Provide expert troubleshooting and maintenance support for IT systems, ensuring rapid identification and resolution of technical issues.
- Support operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting for end-user workstations and desktop applications, ensuring smooth user experiences.
- Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to collect data, conduct analysis, and implement effective solutions for incident tickets and requirements.
- Actively seek and implement opportunities for continuous improvement to support efficient and effective operations, ensuring system reliability and innovation.
- Develop and implement solutions to complex technical issues, leveraging experience and knowledge of the Linux ecosystem.
- Provide follow-up reports detailing technical findings, feedback, resolution steps taken, and recommendations for process improvements.
- Provide on-call support in a 24/7/365 environment, ensuring quick resolution of issues during outages or after-hours incidents. Shift work may be required.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in Linux technologies, automation, and security best practices through continuous learning and certifications.
Compensation:
- 130,000 - $160,000 *depending on experience*
