About the Role
The Manager, Project Engineering role is a dual function role in which the successful candidate will manage, grow and shape Sierra Space's Project Engineering staff while also acting as a key Project Engineer on a Space System development program. As the Manager, Project Engineering, you will use a strong technical foundation in engineering combined with expertise in cost and schedule management to lead programs to execution success. In your program role, you will serve as a bridge between Engineering teams and Program Management. As a functional leader and manager, you will define the competencies required for Project Engineering while growing the skills of the Project Engineering team and deploying them across both Civil and Defense programs.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Manage the Sierra Space functional Project Engineering team, including skill growth, staffing, and career progression.
- Chart the developmental progression, corporate policies, practices and command media for Project Engineering.
- Support active Sierra Space programs as a Project Engineering subject matter expert, and perform duties that may include:
- Technical estimation support to develop Basis of Estimates, Proposals, and Contracts.
- Conducting high-impact trade studies and lead technical evaluations.
- Managing suppliers, including developing and managing Statements of Work, addressing supplier issues, and developing return to green plans for supplier schedules.
- Performing Risk Management and Cost/Schedule management
- Managing Key Performance Indicators and Technical Performance Metrics
- Interfacing and coordinating with key customers and stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Proven track record of successfully leading technical teams through project execution.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and strategic thinking skills.
- Expertise in project management techniques and processes, including EVMS, CAM, or equivalent.
- Expertise in the implementation and execution of effective risk and opportunity management.
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with technical and specialty subject matter experts of varying functional disciplines to drive project outcomes.
- Clear verbal and written communication of technical concepts, plans, and actions.
- Ability to obtain clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Typically 4-6 years of relevant leadership and/or project management experience
- Previous management experience; exposure to recruiting employees; assigning, directing, and evaluating their work; and overseeing the development and maintenance of staff competence
- Experience with identifying and coordinating resources to ensure the required tools, processes, and training are available/effective and programs are staffed and supported to achieve success
- Understanding of how to prepare project schedules, budgets, bids, and estimates for proposed program work packages
- Prior experiences with a significant focus on project management.
- Professional Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Experience with systems engineering and integration.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
- Experience with CAD software and engineering design tools.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
- Experience in product lifecycle management (PLM).
- Familiarity with Agile and Lean methodologies.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in developing and managing project budgets.
- Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense or US Military
COMPENSATION
Pay Range:
$153,670.00 - $211,310.00
Your actual base compensation will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness.
