Position Summary / Objective:

KMS Solutions, LLC is seeking a highly motivated individual to be responsible for providing expert knowledge and guidance related to diesel engine technology, applications, and systems. The SME will support the PMS 396 Diesel Team by offering insights into diesel engine renewal and modernization efforts for diesels for all US Navy Submarines. This position requires a deep understanding of diesel engine mechanics, control systems, emissions regulations, and industry best practices. This position supports the In-Service Strategic Submarines Program Office (PMS 396) which is part of Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), Program Executive Office Strategic Submarines (PEO SSBN), and Team Submarine.

This position is available immediately. Salary is dependent on experience and education.

Essential functions:

  • Technical Expertise: Serve as the primary resource for diesel engine technology, providing expert advice on engine design, performance, and operations.
  • Research and Development: Collaborate with engineering teams on the design and development of diesel modernizations. Conduct feasibility studies and performance evaluations for new technologies and applications.
  • Diagnostics and Troubleshooting: Provide technical support for diagnosing and resolving complex diesel engine issues. Develop diagnostic procedures and training materials to enhance the skills of maintenance personnel.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to environmental regulations and industry standards related to diesel engine emissions and performance. Assist in the preparation of documentation for regulatory compliance and certification processes.
  • Training and Mentorship: Conduct training sessions and workshops for engineering and maintenance teams on diesel engine systems and best practices. Mentor junior engineers and technicians, fostering their professional development in diesel technology.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to address engine-related challenges and improve products. Participate in industry forums, conferences, and workshops to represent the organization and share knowledge.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations on diesel engine performance, trends, and recommendations for management and stakeholders.


Required education and experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a business or technical field. An Associates Degree and 2 years of additional experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor's Degree or a High School Diploma/GED and 4 years of additional experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor's Degree.
  • 8 years of experience in program management.


Preferred education and experience:
  • Experience in engineering or program management with Navy/NAVSEA/Shipyard highly preferred.


Competencies:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Great verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Understanding of project management fundamentals including critical path items, risk management, and long lead time items.

An active DoD Secret security clearance.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

The typical workday is eight hours in length. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, with concurrence from the supervisor. Attendance at prescheduled mandatory meetings is required. Must be available during the core work hours as determined by your contract/location and must account for the required number of hours in a pay period to maintain Full-time status.

Telework:
  • Up to 40% telework may be allowed. Fully remote considered for exceptionally qualified candidates outside the DMV area.


Travel:
  • Ability to travel CONUS; potential to travel OCONUS
  • Travel up to 25% travel may be required to locations including, but not limited to, Newport, RI; Kings Bay, GA; Bangor, WA; Pearl, HI, San Diego, CA and Norfolk, VA.
