Job Description
Exemplified by our mission: "We Protect Those Who Protect Us®", BAE Systems' Fast Labs innovates next generation capabilities for the warfighter. Through technology development programs funded by Science and Technology (S&T) /Research & Development (R&D) organizations within the U.S. Department of Defense, our R&D teams fearlessly innovate and collaborate across the enterprise to create game-changing capabilities for the warfighter. On this team, you'll have the opportunity to develop and mature advanced technology capabilities in the areas of cyber and Electronic Warfare (EW).

Within BAE Systems' FAST Labs™ RF Cyber - Attack Defend Support (R3) Product Line, the Converged Solutions (CS) Technical Area is growing rapidly. Ranging from the next generation of new RF/cyber algorithms to demonstration of advanced EW capabilities in integrated systems at government ranges, CS has established itself as an industry leader in the development of cutting-edge technologies. With this growth, CS is seeking a Technology Development Manager (TDM) to help execute the strategy to an expanded future state. We are looking for people who are as excited to do hands on work in developing these new technologies as they are to capture new programs to do so for our customers. Through innovative R&D technical contributions, your work will help enable the rapid development and fielding of effects across the RF/cyber spectrum for next generation mission support. Our aim is to reduce the timeline to cross the "valley of death" between disruptive R&D technologies and their operational use.

Our TDMs combine aspects of science, applied engineering, and program management to execute a portion of a product line's strategic plan by both capturing and executing on sponsored research programs. You will be an integral part of technical teams executing specific programs to meet customer mission needs. You will also lead new business shaping, pursuits and capture of follow-up work via routine engagements with current and potential customers by establishing yourself as a trusted advisor to our customers.

The TDM will report to the CS Technical Group Lead (TGL) and will be based in our Merrimack, NH facility. Alternative location could be based in our Arlington, VA or Burlington, MA facilities for the right candidate. This position will require ~25% travel; primarily to the National Capital Region (NCR), Dayton OH, and other CONUS locations. Infrequent OCONUS travel may be required.

Responsibilities for this role include:
  • Principal Investigator for Cyber/RF programs developing new technical capabilities, executing technical direction and guiding teams in executing complex research projects that regularly involving multiple technical fields
  • Collaboration across the larger BAE Systems organization to facilitate the development and transition of game-changing cyber and RF technologies
  • Defining, proposing, and leading independent technical research and development efforts
  • Transitioning technology development programs over the "valley of death" internally and externally
  • Contributing to the development of the portfolio strategy to pursue R&D funding to achieve annual growth
  • Lead and shape captures and proposals, expanding our existing technology baseline in alignment with the R3 Product Line strategy and vision
  • Significant customer interaction, initiating customer contact to create new business opportunities at DoD research and development organizations such as DARPA, AFRL, ONR, ARL as well as non-traditional R&D organizations
Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format. A large portion of the time will be spent working on-site; with a smaller portion allowed remotely.
