Laboratory Manager
- Location: Adelphi, Maryland
- Security Clearance: Active Clearance or Eligible to Obtain - U.S. citizenship required

SURVICE Engineering is currently seeking a Laboratory Manager to support our Aberdeen Research Operation. You will accelerate your career and become an integral team member within the defense community.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Laboratory Equipment Operation: develop and maintain accurate records for all laboratory instruments and equipment, associated peripherals, required maintenance (annual, preventative, etc.), required certifications, and the associated purchasing requirements, approvals, documentation, and pathways. Develop and implement equipment maintenance schedules and procedures. Coordinate with vendors and service providers to ensure timely and effective equipment maintenance. Coordinate the purchasing, receiving, installation, and tagging of new laboratory instruments. Coordinate the removal of non-operational/old equipment with facilities, property book, and instrument POCs. Schedule and escort technicians to access laboratory equipment to perform repairs or maintenance and ensure that all service is properly documented; ensure that all ARL safety and security requirements are met. Ensure that annual calibration and certification of centrifuges, pipettes, biosafety cabinets, autoclaves, balances, and chemical fume hoods is performed on time and there is no lapse in certification status. Maintain a basic knowledge of how each instruments works and the appropriate documentation for safe operation of all lab equipment. Collect and track needs for laboratory equipment. Ensure the equipment logs are being maintained and end users are accurately recording usage.
- Safety: Maintain current training including biosafety subject matter expertise and any other training required to perform required tasks, test eye wash stations and safety showers and complete associated documentation, ensure safe storage of chemical and supply inventory, prepare for and coordinate regular safety inspections, complete all required training in compliance with the laboratory safety program and monitor personnel safety compliance by means of signoffs and quizzes. Attend regular (quarterly) biosafety meetings and weekly safety walkthroughs. Dispose of excess biological and chemical material following laboratory Standing Operation Procedure (SOP). Ensure proper disposal of biohazardous waste, sharps waste, and hazardous waste. Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and procedures. Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Coordinate with institutional safety offices to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, such as Biosafety Level (BSL) guidelines, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines.
- Consumable Supply Maintenance: develop and maintain inventory and stocks of consumable items and ensure a minimum three (3) week supply of chemicals and consumables for biotechnology research facility. Generate and track purchase requests for common consumables and chemicals for all of the various purchasing pathways. Provide documentation, as needed, for receipt of items and coordinate purchases with card holders and end users. Coordinate delivery of items to requestors. Provide list of replacement consumables needed to maintain laboratory inventory on a weekly basis to Government technical representative. Ship, track, and receive packages, to include live strains, hazardous materials, and perishables, in accordance with safety precautions and laboratory procedures. Deliver orders to end users; ensure proper handling of perishable items. Complete all Army required training to perform shipping duties.
- General Laboratory Management: maintain general laboratory cleanliness and organization; develop and maintain laboratory locations for glassware, plastic ware, and washing areas; develop and implement best practices for laboratory cleanliness and organization; and provide guidance to laboratory personnel for maintaining laboratory operations.
- Communication and Collaboration: Foster open communication and collaboration among laboratory staff, researchers, and stakeholders. Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and service providers. Coordinate with other departments and institutions to share resources, expertise, and best practices. Provide clear communication to laboratory personnel and supervisors.
Minimum Qualifications of Laboratory Manager
