We are recruiting to fill a senior engineer position supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Advanced Concepts Evaluation (CAS). This office develops missile defense concepts, crafts analysis plans and tools, and interprets analytical data that helps MDA decision makers to assess Missile Defense System (MDS) architecture alternatives and make investment decisions.
The candidate will work internally with MDA's Chief Architect and other MDA offices as well as other Department of Defense and other government agencies. The position requires a strong understanding of Ballistic Missile Defense applicable technologies and a solid system engineering background with experience in one or more of the following: requirements development, program definition, program acquisition, system-of-systems. The successful candidate will have the ability to work and collaborate in cross-functional teams with the technical customers, senior technical staff, and professionals at other government agencies. This full-time salaried position reports to an office at Fort Belvoir, VA.
The preferred candidate is energetic and can handle a position in a small team that runs at a high ops' tempo. The position requires travel within the United States on average 3-4 days at a time, twice a year.

Duties of a Senior Systems Engineer may include:
- Develop concepts, analysis plans, top-level requirements for MDS architecture alternatives
- Develop plans of action and milestones for analytical study efforts
- Develop present technical level and executive level briefings, whitepapers, and reports
- Review technical concept documents for consistency with approved baselines and system architectures
- Review and contribute to the development of program plans and strategies
- Develop capabilities-based acquisition approaches for concepts/systems under study
- Support the government formal tasking of Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), University Affiliated Research Center (UARCs), and National Labs and serve as an action officer and technical study lead for their tasks.
- Leverage professional networks to support ongoing inter/cross agency studies and identify cross-use and integration opportunities across the whole of government's investments
Qualifications:
- 12+ years' experience in relevant fields
- Technical or programmatic experience with Ballistic Missile Defense applicable technologies preferred (e.g., sensor, interceptor, C2BMC (Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications))
- Familiarity with MDS Technical Baseline and Program of Record Systems (current and projected)
- Familiarity with the MDS related space systems and technologies including satellite communications architectures, the Overhead Persistent Infra-Red (OPIR) sensor architecture, the Space Based Infra-Red System (SBIRS) and other programs of record
- Experience with Special Access Program (SAP) security protocols
- Support the integration of novel concepts and alternative system architectures into wargame planning and execution
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Office 365, One Drive, Project, Access and/or other similar software
Education
- S. or PhD in Engineering, Math, or Physics
Clearance
- Active DoD (Department of Defense) Top Secret (TS) security clearance with current Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) eligibility
