Leidos Health Solutions currently has an opening for a Research Associate I or Research Associate II supporting the Expeditionary and Trauma Medicine Department at the Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) in San Antonio TX. NAMRU-SA serves as one of the leading research and development laboratories for the U.S. Navy and conducts gap driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of Department of Defense (DoD) personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations. Members of the Expeditionary and Trauma Medicine Department conduct research focused on the protection, resuscitation, and stabilization of combat casualties at front-line points of care in the combat theater. This includes primary and pre-clinical research for the development and optimization of drug products, advanced therapies for the treatment of hemorrhagic shock and identifying and mitigating stressors through the evaluation of products and agents.

The Challenge:
Research Associate I
- Responsible for working in laboratory-based research, applying the latest scientific knowledge towards the solution of a broad range of theoretical and practical problems in the areas of trauma, hemorrhage and resuscitation
- Assists technical personnel associated with the projects and manage data
- Assists in research design
- Sets up, operates, and calibrates laboratory equipment in accordance with research protocols
- Assists in the maintenance of a clean and operational laboratory space
- Assists in ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies for research
- Researches and collects data through complex laboratory/scientific experiments, techniques, and procedures
- Compiles and may analyze data using scientific or statistical techniques
- Assists with writing and editing material for publication and presentation.
- Reports on status of research activities.
- Routes administrative paperwork related to scientific products
Research Associate II
- Responsible for working in laboratory-based research, applying the latest scientific knowledge towards the solution of a broad range of theoretical and practical problems in the areas of trauma, hemorrhage and resuscitation
- Assists with administrative tasks, including preparation and revision of Performance Work Statements (PWS), IACUC and IRB protocols, proposals, manuscripts, report and presentation editing and review
- Routes administrative paperwork related to scientific products
- Coordinates the implementation of research studies, including regulatory requirements, maintenance of study records and all activities associated with internal and external audits
- Assists in ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies related to research under contract.
- Aids in market research for equipment and equipment maintenance services requirements related to research under contract
- Ensures IACUC/IRB requirements are followed
- Modifies and plans research experiment schedules, procedures, and tests
- Researches and collects data through complex laboratory/scientific experiments, techniques, and procedures, literature research, or through other means for research projects
- Assists with the maintenance of a clean and operational lab space
- Reports on status of research activities
- Routes administrative paperwork related to scientific products
- Maintains data and records securely, including the use of an assigned laboratory notebook
- Oversee and instruct contract personnel on technical procedures, equipment operation, and laboratory maintenance
- Writes and edits material for publication and presentations
What Sets You Apart:
- Research Associate I: Bachelor’s degree plus two (2) years’ full-time research experience in related field, or master’s degree with relevant experience
- Research Associate II: Bachelor’s degree plus five (5) years’ full-time research experience in related field, or master’s degree plus two (2) years’ full-time research experience in related field
- Experience working with and handling animals in a research setting
- Certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS); American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course; American Red Cross CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation); or equivalent. Web based classes do not meet these standards. If you do not have a current certification, you must obtain one within 3 months of hire.
- The candidate will be required to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level
- Due to Federal contract requirements, US citizenship is required
You may also have:
- Experience with Graphpad or SAS (preferred)
- Experience in military medical research laboratory (preferred)
