Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector (NGDS) is seeking a Sr. Principal Exercise Designer to join our Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) Mission Training Complex (MTC) team on-base in Washington state. The selected candidate will provide expertise to units in the development and evaluation of military training and doctrine.

This position is contingent upon contract award, budget, and customer approval.

Responsibilities:

  • Designs and tailors large exercises to meet training and technical requirements
  • Represents the MTC at all in progress reviews (IPRs) for each exercise
  • Coordinates information flow across the MTC with both the local Government Staff and the Contract Staff to support training units through TC 7-101 and to ensure the facility, simulations, networks connections are properly planned and executed
  • Coordinates with outside agencies to support large scale training events
  • Leverages specialized expertise in planning and executing some or all phases of military training exercises, including doctrinal development, scenario development, and after action review (AAR) and analysis
  • Maintains a working knowledge of Army, United States Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) and United States Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) training development programs and policies to determine how these may impact home station training requirements


Basic Qualifications:

  • One of the following:
    • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 14 years of professional and/or military experience
    • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of professional and/or military experience
    • Master's degree with a minimum of 8 years of professional and/or military experience
  • Must possess an active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret (TS) security clearance
  • Knowledge of Corps and Division tactics, use of military graphics, tactical terms and acronyms
  • Knowledge of process to prepare Combat Operations
  • Knowledge of currently used simulations
  • Must be able to work on-site at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington
  • Must be able to travel as needed (up to 10% of the time)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Army FA57 - Simulations Officer experience


Salary Range: $103,200.00 - $154,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
