Description of Duties:

The Data Science Shared Services (DS3) Manager will lead a team of data scientists and analysts to provide centralized data science services across the organization. This role is responsible for managing the delivery of data-driven insights, developing and implementing data science strategies, and ensuring the effective use of data science tools and methodologies to support objectives. The Data Science Shared Services Manager supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. The candidate will:

Leadership and Management:

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data scientists, analysts, engineers, and architects.

• Monitor and track program metrics and key performance indicators; alert team members when a metric is falling out of bounds.

• Evaluate program performance and outcomes.

• Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment.

• Manage team performance and provide regular feedback.

• Develop cost-sharing plans to manage a federated hub-and-spoke shared services team of at least 12 people.

• Oversee Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes to ensure data integrity and availability.

Strategic Planning:

• Draft enterprise-level data governance policies, processes, and standards. Develop and implement data science strategies aligned with organizational goals.

• Identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive solutions.

• Collaborate with senior leadership to appropriately prioritize and resource data projects.

• Provide written reports to senior leaders on data findings to support data driven decisions.

Project Management:

• Oversee the delivery of data science projects from inception to completion.

• Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.

• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure project alignment and integration.

ETL Processes:

• Design, implement, and manage ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data from various sources.

• Ensure data quality, integrity, and availability for analysis and reporting.

• Optimize ETL workflows for efficiency and scalability.

Technical Expertise:

• Provide technical guidance and support to the data science team, including visualizations, data collection, and project value mapping.

• Stay current with industry trends and advancements in data science.

• Ensure the use of best practices in data science methodologies and tools.

• Analyze processes to automate or find efficiencies.

Stakeholder Engagement:

• Act as a liaison between the data science team and other departments.

• Communicate complex data insights in a clear and actionable manner.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.

Basic Requirements:

Must have a Master's degree and 12 years of general experience

• At least 10 years of directly related experience in data management and analysis.

• At least 3 years in a management/leadership role.

• Must have experience supporting the IRES contract

• Master's degree in mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field from an accredited university.

• Experience with data science tools and programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL, MATLAB).

• Experience with Agile project management methodologies.

• An active DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Desired Requirements:

• Leading high-performing teams.

• Analyzing processes to automate or find efficiencies.

• Creating and organizing lists and libraries in SharePoint.

• Setting metrics goals, generating reports that explain the data; work with customers to determine what metrics will help drive decisions.

• Managing the data lifecycle.

• Experience with ETL tools and processes (e.g., Apache NiFi, Talend, Informatica, Snowflake).

• Knowledge of the role that data plays in enterprise architecture.

This position is expected to pay $175,000 - $200,000 annually; depending on experience, education, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.
