Position Summary / Objective:
The Accounting Clerk III will be responsible for managing financial transactions, maintaining detailed financial records, and ensuring compliance with federal standards. This role supports the contract by processing payments, reconciling accounts, and assisting in financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and accountability in all financial dealings. Uses knowledge of double entry bookkeeping in performing one or more of the following; post actions to journals, identify subsidiary accounts affected and debit and credit entries to be made, assign proper postings to balance and reconcile accounts; review computer printouts against spreadsheets, detect and correct erroneous postings, and preparing documents to adjust accounting classifications and other data, reviews lists of transactions rejected by an automated system, determine reasons for rejections, and prepare necessary correcting transactions.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
The typical workday is eight hours in length. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, with concurrence from the supervisor. Attendance at prescheduled mandatory meetings is required. Must be available during the core work hours as determined by your contract/location and must account for the required number of hours in a pay period to maintain Full-time status.

- Prepare and examine financial records
- Ensure that financial records are accurate and in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Prepare financial documentation, including directives, instructions, reports, forms, and manuals, to ensure financial activities are well-documented and compliant.
- Perform payroll processing and resolve discrepancies to ensure contract staff are compensated accurately and on time.
- Reconcile accounts and prepare financial reports for audits, ensuring compliance with regulations and readiness for financial inspections.
- Review and verify the accuracy of financial data, ensuring consistency and compliance with accounting standards.
- Maintain an organized filing system for financial documents to facilitate easy retrieval during audits.
- Generate monthly and quarterly financial summaries to support contract performance assessments.
- Collaborate with the financial team to develop cost-saving measures and identify opportunities for financial efficiencies.
- Ensuring desk guides exist and are accurate for all accountant positions.
Required education and experience:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in financial management, bookkeeping, and compliance with contract standards.
- Financial audit experience
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Knowledge of auditing standards and processes, including documenting and modifying processes and controls, identifying internal control deficiencies through testing and remediation of deficiencies, and evaluating transaction-level evidential matter.
- Flowcharting processes with Microsoft Visio.
- Able to obtain / maintain an Active DoD Secret security clearance or higher.
Preferred education and experience:
- Proficiency in financial software.
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
- Familiarity with federal accounting standards and regulations.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
Competencies:
- Proficient in bookkeeping principles and accounting software.
- Experience with account reconciliation, reporting, and audit support.
- High level of accuracy in transactions and record-keeping.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
