Job Description:
* You will be responsible for directly contributing to the pointing, acquisition, and tracking (PAT) team within the Laser Communications Group.
* This multi-disciplinary team leverages knowledge of devices, electronics, analysis software, embedded software, test infrastructures, algorithms, atmospheric propagation, disturbance rejection, free-space optics, opto-mechanics, and controls systems while creating low size, weight, and power (SWaP) solutions for lasercom terminals to repeatably and reliably point at each other.
* Without effective PAT, free space lasercom links cannot be established.
* You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and multi-disciplinary environment while contributing to innovative solutions and demonstrating personal leadership, technical excellence, and attention to detail.
* You should also be willing to document your work.
Requirements:
* S. in Electrical/ Mechanical/ Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics.
* 1+ years of experience with controls systems in a laboratory environment involving hardware and software development and integration.
* 1+ years of aerospace engineering experience - research or internship experience acceptable.
* 1+ years of experience with Python and/or MATLAB programming.
* 1+ years of experience with autonomous systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
* 1+ years of experience automating laboratory testbeds.
* 1+ years of experience with position, navigation, and timing (PNT) systems.
* 1+ years of experience testing and characterizing optical devices, such as quad cell photodetectors and/or focal plane arrays.
* 1+ years of experience developing or implementing control systems algorithms on hardware.
* 1+ years of experience with industry standard software engineering processes.
* 1+ years of experience with industry standard embedded software development processes.
* 1+ years of experience with atmospheric propagation of light through turbulent atmosphere.
* 1+ years of experience with optomechanical alignments in laboratory testbeds.
* 1+ years of experience with optical communications systems.
