What You'll Do
As a Behavioral Health Specialist in El Centro, you'll be part of a multidisciplinary team providing trauma-informed, compassionate care to children facing extraordinary circumstances. You will work directly in Customs and Border Protection (CBP) processing facilities, ensuring each child receives the emotional support and behavioral health oversight they need.
Core Responsibilities
This position follows a rotating 4-on/3-off and 3-on/4-off schedule with 12-hour shifts, maintaining 24/7 care operations:
Shifts alternate between weeks and include rotating weekends, offering predictable time off and consistent full-time hours.

What You'll Do
As a Behavioral Health Specialist in El Centro, you'll be part of a multidisciplinary team providing trauma-informed, compassionate care to children facing extraordinary circumstances. You will work directly in Customs and Border Protection (CBP) processing facilities, ensuring each child receives the emotional support and behavioral health oversight they need.
Core Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary behavioral health resource for on-site facility staff
- Conduct facility rounds to assess child well-being and identify risks
- Provide real-time crisis intervention and de-escalation
- Offer trauma-informed guidance on emotional regulation and behavioral health support
- Collaborate with CBP, HHS ORR, NGOs, and medical providers to ensure coordinated care
- Participate in decision-making on medical, psychological, and developmental issues
- Maintain clear and timely behavioral documentation and reporting
- Recommend improvements that promote safe, supportive, child-centered care environments
This position follows a rotating 4-on/3-off and 3-on/4-off schedule with 12-hour shifts, maintaining 24/7 care operations:
- Week 1: 4 days on, 3 days off (48 hours)
- Week 2: 3 days on, 4 days off (36 hours)
- Day Shift: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM
- Night Shift: 8:00 PM - 8:00 AM

Requirements
- Master's or Doctoral degree in a behavioral health field
- Active, unrestricted license in one of the following:
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW/LICSW)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
- Licensed Psychologist (LP)
- Minimum two years of post-licensure experience, preferably with:
- Child development
- Trauma-informed care
- Clinical evaluations
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Spanish/English bilingual strongly preferred (ILR 3/5 or higher)
- Comfort working in dynamic, high-stakes environments
- Help protect and support vulnerable children in urgent need
