What You'll Do
As an On-Call Behavioral Health Specialist, you will provide behavioral health support within CBP processing centers. Your responsibilities will include assessing child well-being, responding to crises, supporting care decisions, and ensuring child-centered, trauma-informed interventions.
Core Responsibilities
- Serve as a behavioral health point of contact for facility staff
- Conduct rounds to assess emotional and behavioral well-being of children
- Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention and de-escalation support
- Guide staff in managing behavioral health needs through best practices
- Collaborate with CBP, HHS ORR, NGOs, and healthcare providers to coordinate care
- Assist in clinical decisions related to medical, psychological, or developmental needs
- Document all behavioral health encounters and maintain accurate clinical records
- Recommend improvements to support safer, more responsive care environments
This position is on-call and shift-based:
- 12-hour shifts: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM or 8:00 PM - 8:00 AM
- Shifts are scheduled based on facility needs and candidate availability
- Includes potential weekend, holiday, or short-notice assignments
- Master's or Doctoral degree in a behavioral health field
- Active, unrestricted license as one of the following:
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW/LICSW)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
- Licensed Psychologist (LP)
- At least 2 years of post-licensure experience in:
- Child development
- Trauma-informed care
- Clinical evaluations
- Experience in team-based or high-urgency clinical settings
- Spanish/English bilingual preferred (minimum ILR 3/5 or equivalent)
- Ability to work effectively in dynamic, evolving environments
- Help protect and support vulnerable children in crisis
