What You'll Do
As a Behavioral Health Specialist, you will deliver direct care, crisis intervention, and clinical guidance within DHS facilities. Your role will focus on maintaining emotional well-being for children in custody, collaborating with federal partners, and contributing to child-centered care improvements.
Core Responsibilities
- Serve as a point of contact for behavioral health and child well-being concerns
- Conduct rounds to assess children's emotional and behavioral status
- Provide trauma-informed crisis response and de-escalation support
- Offer guidance to facility staff on trauma-informed care practices
- Collaborate with CBP, HHS ORR, NGOs, and healthcare partners to ensure coordinated care
- Participate in complex decision-making related to developmental, medical, or psychological needs
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation of all behavioral health activities
- Contribute to ongoing improvements that promote safe, child-friendly environments
- Rotating 4-on/3-off and 3-on/4-off schedule
- Week 1: 4 days on / 3 days off (48 hours)
- Week 2: 3 days on / 4 days off (36 hours)
- Day Shift: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM
- Night Shift: 8:00 PM - 8:00 AM
- Includes rotating weekends and holidays
- Master's or Doctoral degree in a behavioral health field
- Active, unrestricted license as one of the following:
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW/LICSW)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
- Licensed Psychologist (LP)
- Minimum 2 years of post-licensure experience in:
- Child development
- Trauma-informed care
- Clinical evaluations
- Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred (minimum ILR 3/5 or equivalent)
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, team-based environment
- Strong documentation, communication, and crisis intervention skills
- Help protect and support vulnerable children in federal care
