Offensive Cyber Operations Expert – Level 4
JOB DESCRIPTION
X8 is seeking a highly experienced Cyber Operations Expert to support the evaluation, planning, and integration of offensive cyber operations (OCO) capabilities. This position will play a key role in assessing OCO processes, tools, and policies against mission plans and operational lines of effort (LOEs), while working closely with planning teams and tactical units to ensure mission alignment. The Cyber Operations Expert will help shape capability development by identifying operational gaps, designing and prototyping new tools or tactics, and integrating solutions into operations. This position is located in Columbia, MD.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
• Evaluate OCO processes, policies, and tools in the context of operational plans and strategic lines of effort.
• Participate in Operational Planning Teams (OPTs), collaborate with planners at Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQs), and interface with tactical-level planners to align with mission goals.
• Conduct capability gap analyses and propose solutions aligned with USCYBERCOM’s Joint Cyber Warfighting Architecture (JCWA).
• Develop and prototype tools, tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), or process capabilities to close identified gaps.
• Work with government and contract engineers to prepare solutions for implementation in operational systems or test ranges.
• Support tool integration and the development of best practices to enable new capabilities within the JCWA framework.
• Train and mentor operational teams to support adoption and effective use of new tools and techniques.
WHAT REQUIRED SKILLS YOU'LL BRING
• 8+ years of experience supporting offensive cyber operations (OCO), cyber mission planning, or cyber capability development, preferably in joint or interagency environments.
• Proven ability to conduct gap analysis and translate mission needs into functional requirements.
• Background in developing training materials and guiding operational teams through tool adoption and integration.
• Understanding of test range environments and the operationalization of cyber capabilities.
• Familiarity with developing and prototyping cyber tools or processes.
WHAT PREFERRED SKILLS YOU'LL BRING
• Familiarity with USCYBERCOM’s Joint Cyber Warfighting Architecture (JCWA) and Joint Cyber Weapons (JCW) Common Services.
• Experience transitioning proof-of-concept tools into operational capabilities.
MINIMUM CLEARANCE REQUIRED
• Active TS/SCI CI Poly
COMPENSATION
• Salary Range: $200,000 + (depending on experience and education)
• Time Off: 24 Days PTO and 13 Federal holidays
• 401K: up to 10% 401(k) contribution
• Up to $5,000 continuing education reimbursement
• Up to $15,000 in performance bonus, on an annual basis,
• Benefits: 100% medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance
