At V2X, we are making a difference by delivering decision support tools critical for the protection of our forces when threatened by both physical and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, or Nuclear (CBRN) threats.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring that separate development, test, and master environments are properly set up and maintained to support the work of software developers
  • Duties will include overseeing the functionality and readiness of the lab systems, ensuring they are always fully operational
  • In the event of downtime or system failures, you will be tasked with troubleshooting and bringing the systems back online quickly to minimize disruptions
  • Work will be essential in providing a stable and efficient environment for development, testing, and system integration, ultimately supporting the detection, analysis, and response to CBRN threats.
  • In the role of an Intermediate System Administrator for the Integrated Early Warning of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Sensor's project, major job activities would include:
  • Lab Environment Setup and Maintenance
    • Configure and maintain development, test, and master environments that mirror the fielded systems.
    • Ensure hardware and software configurations are aligned with operational and security standards to reflect real-world conditions.
    • Set up virtual machines, network configurations, and other infrastructure components to create a stable environment for testing and development.
  • System Monitoring and Troubleshooting
    • Continuously monitor the health and performance of lab systems to ensure uptime and efficiency.
    • Proactively identify and resolve potential system issues or performance bottlenecks.
    • Respond quickly to system downtime or malfunctions, diagnosing and bringing systems back online as quickly as possible.
    • Implement and maintain logging and alerting systems to track performance and identify any potential issues in real-time.
  • Backup and Recovery Operations
    • Regularly back up critical lab systems and configurations to ensure data integrity and recoverability.
    • Establish and maintain a disaster recovery plan for the lab infrastructure.
    • Ensure that recovery procedures are well-documented and tested to minimize downtime in case of system failure.
  • System and Network Configuration Management
    • Install, configure, and manage system components, including operating systems, databases, networking equipment, and software tools.
    • Ensure security updates and patches are applied regularly to maintain a secure and compliant environment.
    • Maintain network configurations that allow for seamless development, testing, and deployment of software solutions in the lab.
  • Collaboration with Development Teams
    • Work closely with software developers to ensure the lab environment is properly configured for development, testing, and integration tasks.
    • Assist developers in creating isolated environments for different stages of the software lifecycle (development, test, master).
    • Provide support for deployment pipelines, ensuring that the lab environment is optimized for seamless code integration and testing.
  • Documentation and Reporting
    • Maintain accurate documentation for lab environment setup, system configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
    • Create and update operational manuals and guides for system maintenance and support activities.
    • Generate regular reports on system status, performance, and uptime for stakeholders.
  • Security and Compliance
    • Implement and maintain security measures to protect lab systems and data, ensuring compliance with Department of Defense (DOD) and industry standards.
    • Conduct routine security audits and vulnerability assessments of the lab infrastructure.
    • Enforce access control policies and ensure proper user authentication and authorization for the lab environment.
  • Capacity Planning and Resource Management
    • Monitor system resource utilization (e.g., CPU, memory, storage) and proactively plan for scaling lab infrastructure to meet growing demands.
    • Work with program management team to forecast future lab requirements and help procure additional resources or equipment as necessary.
  • Training and Support
    • Provide support to team members and other stakeholders when issues arise in the lab environment.
    • Offer guidance on lab environment usage, troubleshooting, and best practices to developers and other users.
  • Collaboration with Fielded System Teams
    • Ensure the lab environment remains consistent with fielded systems, collaborating with fielded system teams to align configurations, updates, and deployments.
    • Help test and validate changes in the lab environment before deployment to the fielded systems.
  • Physical Activities
  • Must be able to life 50 lbs, work from a ladder, and use power tools
  • Working Environment
  • Job duties will be performed full-time in an office environment.
  • Must be able to operate standard office equipment, such as a computer, copy machine, and printer.

Qualifications

  • Education / Certifications : Related experience may be substituted for education.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science (BSCS), Information Security, or related field and 1+ year experience.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification preferred
  • This position requires an active Secret Clearance
  • Experience :
  • Proficient with managing Linux and Windows server environments.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, Docker).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) for lab environment management.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN) and network configuration.
  • Experience setting up and maintaining VLANs, firewalls, and network security.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery processes, ensuring system data integrity and protection.
  • Experience with network-attached storage (NAS) or storage area networks (SANs).
  • Experience with security tools and protocols (e.g., firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, encryption)
  • Proven experience in creating and managing separate environments (development, test, and production) within a lab setting.
  • Hands-on experience in configuring systems that mirror real-world, fielded environments for testing purposes.
  • Demonstrated experience in diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues promptly.
  • Ability to respond to and manage critical system outages and downtime, ensuring minimal disruption.
  • Experience in maintaining accurate technical documentation, including system configurations, troubleshooting guides, and operational manuals.
  • Ability to create clear and concise reports on system health, performance, and downtime
