The Satellite Communications Technician position shall provide technical support for the operation and maintenance of a teleport site.
- Shall perform network design and evaluation, circuit planning, and network operations support to ensure the availability of a network.
- Shall functions as a key support to Army Communications Staff organizations tasked to manage the network.
- Shall provide critical RF and IP network engineering knowledge of all connectivity into and out of a theater, to include, reach back connectivity to Regional Hub Nodes and redistribution of services (RF, IP, and Fiber) within the theater.
- Shall provide in theater capabilities that are required to ensure that not only Voice over the SIPR (VOSIP), but all service connectivity is maintained.
- Shall provide technical support to troubleshoot and resolve network outages.
- Shall provide quality assurance of installation to terminals and oversee all testing for validation of terminal for operations.
- Shall provide oversight of the satellite transmission plans, bandwidth usage and optimization, and IP network configurations as necessary to ensure the best possible service to the end customer.
- Shall provide other key facets of on-site technical support to include conducting systems testing (e.g. Noise Figure Measurements, Phase Noise), technical guidance, network setup with routers, switches, and IP accelerators, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), VoIP switched infrastructure, Call Manager configuration, system troubleshooting, establishing efficient procedures to resolve trouble tickets, and coordinating the deployment of software release and equipment training. Tasks may also include installation, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the RF/satellite, IP network, and fiber distribution systems.
- Shall have good verbal and communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess seven (7) years operational experience in communications software, hardware or networks.
- Specific experience required includes protocol analysis, knowledge of OSI protocol (TCP/IP, X.25.X 400, and X.500).
- Experience with ATM, frame, relay h bridges, routers, gateways, FDDI, and UNIX operating systems is required.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and a comprehensive background check
- US Secret Clearance
Desired Qualification
- CNE or ECNE experience is desired, as well as supervising the operation and maintenance of communication network systems, mainframe, mini or client/server based.
Education
- Bachelors degree in Systems Engineering preferred OR an Associates degree plus 7 years of recent specialized experience OR 11 total years of total specialized experience.
