Spectrum Healthcare Resources is excited to announce a potential opportunity for a Medical Coding Trainer to join our team in supporting Virtual Health programs at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD).
Requirements:
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in medical coding.
- Experience in inpatient and outpatient patient abstract coding is preferred.
- Must have at least one of the following certifications:
- Certified Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P)
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
- Other AAPC or AHIMA-recognized credentials are acceptable.
- Strong knowledge of ICD, CPT, HCPCS, E&M coding, medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology.
- Familiarity with MHS GENESIS, Joint Legacy Viewer (JLV), and medical recordkeeping software.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct coding audits and training for military medical providers and staff.
- Review inpatient and outpatient chart documentation for coding accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure proper ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding application according to DHA and CMS standards.
- Monitor medical documentation for compliance with Medicare and DoD guidelines.
- Assist in capturing professional services for appropriate reimbursement.
- Maintain and report productivity metrics and audit results.
- Develop and deliver training materials, workshops, and educational sessions for coding accuracy improvement.
- Stay current with industry changes, regulations, and best practices in medical coding.
Work Schedule & Hours:
- Workdays: Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays.
- Shifts: 8-hour shifts within standard duty hours of 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM (local time zone).
- Maximum Weekly Hours: No more than 40 hours per week.
