Purpose:
- Valkyrie Enterprises is hiring an experienced HR Business Partner (HRBP) to join our team. We’re looking for someone who brings curiosity and initiative to their work, connects naturally with people, and is energized by solving problems and helping others succeed. In this hands-on role, you’ll partner closely with employees and operational leadership to execute HR initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, and strengthen employee engagement and workforce development. You’ll also use technology and data to improve HR service delivery and respond effectively to changing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- This position is based on-site at Wallops Island, VA, or our Virginia Beach, VA, location. Flexibility is required to support changing business needs, including occasional work beyond standard business hours.
Job Description:
- Serve as the primary HR point of contact, providing proactive guidance and responsive support while building trusted relationships with employees, leaders, and external partners.
- Perform professional-level support across multiple HR disciplines, including employee relations, performance management, compensation, workforce development, regulatory compliance, and internal/external audit readiness.
- Coach managers on employee relations, policy application, and performance expectations, and support workplace investigations and issue resolution in partnership with HR leadership.
- Support full employee lifecycle activities, including onboarding, employee transitions, and exit interviews, ensuring accurate employee records and timely updates in HR systems.
- Assist employees and managers with routine payroll and benefits questions, partnering with Benefits and Payroll to resolve issues and ensure employee changes are communicated accurately and on time.
- Independently manage assigned HR initiatives, programs, and processes, ensuring timely execution, accurate work, and consistent follow-through in alignment with business goals and compliance requirements.
- Anticipate employee and workforce needs, recommend practical solutions, and identify opportunities to simplify processes through technology, automation, and improved workflows.
- Use HRIS reporting, Excel, and other analytical tools to validate workforce data, identify trends, and provide insights that support workforce planning and business decisions.
- Partner with HR systems and IT teams to troubleshoot issues, support system enhancements, and help employees and managers effectively use HR technology and self-service tools.
Qualifications:
- Must have a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of progressive professional HR experience across multiple HR disciplines.
- Must have a basic understanding of payroll processes and employee benefits, including timekeeping, pay changes, benefits eligibility, enrollment, and qualifying life events.
- Must have strong working knowledge of federal and state employment laws, experience applying HR policies and practices, and the ability to stay current on regulatory updates.
- Must be a self-starter with demonstrated ability to manage day-to-day HR responsibilities independently, anticipate needs, and carry initiatives through completion with minimal supervision.
- Must be proficient in using HRIS platforms, Microsoft Excel, and digital collaboration tools, with the ability to generate reports, analyze data, and learn new systems quickly.
- Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize competing demands, adapt to changing business needs, and maintain accuracy and responsiveness.
- Must exercise sound judgment, handle sensitive information with discretion, collaborate effectively across teams, and recognize when to engage HR leadership.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain processes and technology clearly, present to diverse audiences, and build trust at all levels of the organization.
Desired Qualifications:
- Government contracting experience preferred, including familiarity with SCA, EEO, and applicable OFCCP requirements, preferred.
- Strong technical acumen and an automation mindset, with experience using reporting dashboards, workflow automation, or system enhancements to simplify HR processes, reduce manual work, and improve data accuracy, preferred.
- Experience with Paycor, Costpoint, or similar HR and business systems preferred.
- PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent certification preferred.
Travel Requirements:
- Occasional travel, up to 20%.
- If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements:
- Work generally performed in an office setting but may require occasional visits to industrial or shipboard settings.
- Will normally require minor lifting and carrying of boxes of supplies/equipment.
